Nigerian troops have arrested a soldier recently declared wanted by the army for his alleged involvement in the illegal supply of military equipment to terrorist and criminal elements, as he reportedly tried to flee to Cameroon. The suspect, Private Mohammed Yusuf of the Nigerian Army Ordnance Kits Factory in Lagos, was arrested on July 25 at the Jidari Bus Stop in Maiduguri while attempting to flee to the northern Cameroon, according to a statement by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer. Yusuf had been declared wanted on July 23 over the same allegations. He absconded from his unit on July 7 and went into hiding in the Gomari Costain area of Jere Local Government Area with the assistance of an associate. "His arrest underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and the Nigerian Army's unwavering commitment to holding personnel accountable for actions that undermine military ethics, discipline and national security," the statement read. The suspect is currently in custody at the 7 Provost Group, where further investigation is ongoing. #MMINews
