@RoundtableSpace From building a web data API: blocking agents and opening an MCP door are the same decision about who controls what an agent sees. Block them and they fall back to reading pages built for humans. A gateway lets Walmart set the data, the limits and the terms. Who follows next?

@jessiicawu Agree on inference-time data. From building a web data API, the hard part isn't fetching the page, it's what comes with it: when it was fetched, from which URL, and whether the fields were read or guessed. An agent can only weigh data it can trace.

@twifintech @sophgoldb @raincards B2B has a head start because the controls already exist: a budget owner, an approved supplier list and an invoice trail. An agent with a per-call price cap fits that far more easily than one holding a consumer's card. The trust gap is about who signs off, not the tech.

@YanLiberman @0xdrej From building a scraping API: a lot of blocking is sites not knowing who's asking or whether they'll get anything back. A price on the request changes that. With x402 a site can answer an agent with a 402 and a price, not a block. Will sites start charging agents directly?

A test for any agent economy number: does it count agents, wallets, transactions or customers? They differ. One agent can make thousands of payments. One developer can run fifty wallets. The figure I'd trust most is the dullest: how many buyers paid again a week later.

@kay_phillips_ @HivemindCap Fair point. Sellers won't pay to be listed and it's hard to charge an agent for a search. My guess is discovery gets bundled into whoever already sits in the payment flow, like x402 endpoints listed in Coinbase's CDP Bazaar. Did your research find anyone charging for it directly?

@kay_phillips_ @HivemindCap Thanks Kayla, that's a useful map. Interesting that L5 is marked low value accrual. From the seller side it's where most of the friction is: a cheap endpoint no agent can find earns nothing. Maybe little value to capture there, but it shapes who gets paid further down the stack.

@soupsranjan Thanks, that's useful. For per-call sellers the awkward case is a disputed one-cent call: a refund or chargeback costs more than the payment itself, so liability agreed up front matters more than recovery after. Will look out for the paper next week.

TerraDeed pricing for agents: > /scrape is $0.01 and returns the page. > /extract is $0.05 and returns just the fields you ask for, as JSON. It costs more per call but can work out cheaper, as the agent isn't reading a whole page. Pay in USDC over x402 on Base, or with an API key.

@brian_armstrong @CoinbaseDev @base Seller's view: we charge $0.01 per scrape call over x402. Card fees make a one-cent payment unworkable, so agents paying per request in USDC is the new part. Open question: does a Mastercard agent's payment look any different at the seller's end from other x402 payments?

Mastercard building agent payments on x402 with Cloudflare is the headline. The quieter change for builders: you can price a single request. That changes what's worth selling. Data nobody would buy a monthly plan for can still be worth a cent to an agent that needs one answer.

@WaaPxyz From the seller side, this works because the price is known before anything is paid. With x402 the API replies 402 with the price, the agent checks it against the team's budget, then pays and retries. The harder part is the agent judging whether the call is worth it.

@TollyLabs Automatic refunds are the part I'd like to hear more about. As a seller, a failed paid call is where an agent's trust gets won or lost. Does a refund trigger on an error from the service itself, or does the agent have to raise it?

@DanKornas Same lesson from building extraction for agents: the page dump is rarely the real cost, the tokens spent reading it are. Asking for the fields you need and getting JSON back is cheaper and easier to check. How does find cope when a page changes layout between visits?
