THREAD: @GovAbbott says he supports decriminalizing fentanyl testing strips, after previously opposing it and other harm reduction efforts. While we've waited for the Governor to come around, thousands of Texans have died of preventable overdoses. texastribune.org/2022/12/01/gre…
"Harm reduction groups who work with drug users have called for the decriminalization of testing strips for years." We've called for this and so much more. How many more Texans have to die before @GovAbbott stops funding criminalization and starts funding harm reduction?
On #IOAD2022 we released this statement. It was true then, it's still true today. TX must take action this session. We must decrim ALL drug paraphernalia including fent. test strips, authorize syringe exchanges, expand treatment access, & fund housing. x.com/texashra/statu…

Lastly, @GovAbbott's push to criminalize drug dealers will do nothing to #EndOverdose in Texas. We've been locking people up for drugs and pouring $ into criminalization for over 50 yrs, and we're still witnessing the worst overdose crisis our nation has ever seen.
