@TeamYouTube Our long-form space documentaries on Deep Space Logbook get almost no impressions, and most search views come from unrelated searches (concerts, film reactions) that leave in seconds. Could you check whether something is limiting the channel's distribution?
James Webb has detected a mysterious signal coming from a patch of space where nothing appears to exist.
While scanning an apparently empty region of the sky in the direction of the constellation Fornax — an area previously studied for hundreds of hours by Hubble — the telescope picked up a single bright spectral emission line at about 1.6 micrometers. The signal appeared in multiple observations weeks apart, yet no visible object, galaxy, or known source could be linked to it. Astronomers remain puzzled, as standard explanations such as a distant galaxy, supernova, or black hole tearing apart a star don’t fully fit the data. The finding highlights how even the most thoroughly observed regions of the universe can still hold unexpected surprises.
@konstructivizm The north polar cap is about 1,000 km across. The dark spirals are deep troughs in shadow, and Chasma Boreale, a canyon about as long as the Grand Canyon and up to 2 km deep, almost splits it in two.
@konstructivizm Some of Clyde Tombaugh's ashes ride on New Horizons, in a small canister on its upper deck. On 14 July 2015 the spacecraft carried them past the world he found in 1930.
@latestinspace October's full moon, the Hunter's Moon, peaks at 04:11 GMT on Monday 26 October. In New York that is 12:11 a.m., just after Sunday night turns into Monday.
@konstructivizm Webb's close-up of one "toe bean" in the Cat's Paw was its third-anniversary image, released 10 July 2025. Massive young stars inside it are carving away the gas and dust, and their light makes the nebula glow.
@konstructivizm That patch is the Hubble Ultra Deep Field in Fornax. Hubble stared at it for about a million seconds in 2004 and found roughly 10,000 galaxies in one tiny sliver of sky.
@konstructivizm The Sombrero spans about 50,000 light-years. Webb's mid-infrared camera MIRI shows its smooth inner disk, while Hubble's visible-light view shows the extended glow of the central bulge.
@konstructivizm Hubble resolved glowing gas knots inside M27, each about 17 to 56 billion km across, several times the Sun to Pluto distance. Each knot holds roughly the mass of three Earths.
@SPACEdotcom During the Apollo 11 landing, a 1202 alarm showed the computer was overloaded. Her team's software shut down background tasks and kept the landing jobs running, so Houston let Eagle land. She died on 30 September, aged 90.
@SPACEdotcom MMX lifts off on an H3 rocket at 19:41 GMT on 19 October. It should reach Mars orbit in August 2027, collect at least 10 grams of Phobos and bring them back to Earth in 2031.
@konstructivizm Wiseman also took "Hello, World" from Orion's window right after the burn that sent them to the Moon. It shows Earth's night side lit by moonlight, with two green auroras and zodiacal light as Earth eclipsed the Sun.
@konstructivizm Webb found quartz crystals in the clouds of WASP-17b, each only about 10 nanometers across. It was the first time silica was seen in an exoplanet's air. The planet is 1,300 light-years away.
@konstructivizm NGC 3256 is about 120 million light-years away in Vela. Two spirals of about equal mass hit head-on roughly 500 million years ago, and the crash set off a bright burst of new stars.
@konstructivizm Sławosz flew to the station on 25 June 2025 for Ignis, a 20-day mission. The Cupola he looked through was built by ESA and has seven windows. It is known as the station's window to the world.
@konstructivizm Hubble has already checked Cloud-9. In January 2026 NASA said it found no stars there at all, just about a million Suns of hydrogen held by roughly five billion Suns of dark matter, 14 million light-years away.
@Rainmaker1973 The farthest humans have gone is now 252,756 miles from Earth. The Artemis II crew reached it during their lunar flyby on 6 April 2026, passing Apollo 13's record. Light covers that in about 1.36 seconds.
@konstructivizm Shepard was 47 on this landing. He and Mitchell spent 9 hours 22 minutes walking on the Moon over two moonwalks, a record then, and brought home 93 pounds of rock and soil.
Ulysses was built for 5 years and ran for 18 years, 8 months and 24 days. On 30 June 2009 the last command went up through NASA's 70 metre dish near Madrid. ESA's log ends with two words: "Goodbye Ulysses."
Two briefcase-sized craft, MarCO-A and MarCO-B, were the first CubeSats to cross deep space. In 2018 they relayed news of InSight's Mars landing back to Earth. Their whole tank of cold gas could change their speed by only about 56 metres a second.
