Pickford has the best footwork from any professional goalkeeper I've ever seen and is the current best in the world, which results in incredible S.stopping and angle closing. This with 'forcing' 'putting off' attacking players with speed and instinct. Should be playing top 4 PL.

#thfc F. Forster looking every inch of his best when in his prime at #saintsfc in the recent CL double. Was the best keeper in europe for a few months under Koeman. Lost his way, but his footwork and concentration are back, and he had elite levels of the rest anyway. Good to see.

Hugo Lloris has enough time to react on that 1st goal for @Arsenal. His hands have to be mid to down turned and at hip height to move up with fingers up or down depending on on the height of the shot. Cut a line through your hips and adjust accordingly. Same as catch or parry.

Whilst watching this game yesterday, JP (of which I rate), I noticed something I see every week. Keeper's guessing instinctively & diving to defend the smaller area of the goal. JWP or any player will instinctively aim for the biggest, open space, when 'guessing', guess the %'s.

Starting positions are up for discussion. I was always wary, like one of our keepers on being 'too far out'. I trusted my shot stopping and 1v1 more than a footrace with an attacker. However, the modern game requires keepers to start 6/8ft further up the pitch. #sweeperkeeper

Concentration is so understated in #goalkeeping Everything we/they learn can only be executed if the head is in the right place. 1st or last min, it is crucial to not let the mind wonder or ball watch. Everything learned, can only be applied if a keeper is in tune with the game.

"That is the hardest thing to do in football, put the ball in the back of the net" That is a nice narrative and a great generic go to, but I 100% would like to differ. Try being stuck in an 8 x 24ft hole and told to stop 10/11 other people scoring in it. By far the hardest job.

Loving working with 15 Y/O keepers atm. Physically bigger, focussed, implementing all the previous coaching too. Taking onboard those 1% margins now too. Consistantly better decision making, starting at 💯% not 50%. Reading and giving micro body signals to forwards. #rewarding
