We're tracking how China's systematically rewiring the precious metals market and what it means for Western investors.
China just pulled off the biggest gold market heist in history.
While we're all distracted watching Powell, Shanghai has taken control of 75% of global gold trading.
Here's how they did it 🧵
BRICS nations now settle 90% of trade without touching USD
They've built a "Gold Corridor" - trade routes that run on gold, not dollars
The dollar monopoly is crumbling and mainstream finance is still debating soft landings
But here's where I think it gets very interesting...
China just classified silver as a "strategic asset"
Translation: No more exports starting Jan 2026
The country that makes all your electronics just said they're keeping all the silver
The numbers are insane:
Shanghai: 1,400 tons physically withdrawn last year
COMEX: Has 1,400 tons TOTAL in storage
Shanghai withdrawal rate: 70%
COMEX physical delivery: <10%
One exchange trades gold. The other trades promises.
Nov 1: China tweaks a boring VAT rule Result: Every gold trader now HAS to go through Shanghai to keep their tax breaks
It's like changing one traffic light and suddenly all roads lead to Beijing
Another week for the record books but what’s really revealing is to see the outperformance of spot Gold and Silver over the past 7 days, compared with GLD and SLV, which are supposed to track the spot price closely.
Over time, they tend to do so, but the fact that even GDX/SLV use Futures contracts tactically has hurt their performance this week as backwardation continues.
Much more in tomorrow’s GoldBuzz goldbuzz.com
Something's broken in the silver market.
The spot price is now HIGHER than futures. That's actually backwards from how it should be. It's called backwardation - and we haven't seen it this extreme in 40+ years.
What it means: There's not enough physical silver to meet demand.
Lease rates hit 39% (normal: <1%)
Solar demand up 96% since 2022
Mine production down 7% since 2016
Last time this happened? 1980 and 2011, when silver gained 71% and 75% within months.

💯 Exactly right. This is such an important chart.
The Silver/S&P 500 ratio just closed above its 100-day moving average in August 2025. It's the same technical setup that preceded silver's 500% rally from 2004-2011.
The ratio has spent nearly a decade building a base beneath a multi-year downtrend, mirroring 2004 conditions.
Silver gained 73% YTD compared with the S&P's 13%
Gold/silver ratio at 91 vs historical median of 60-65 = silver still undervalued
The bigger picture: $84T generational wealth transfer + $5T fleeing Treasuries + 72% of millennials/Gen Z rejecting traditional 60/40 portfolios
What all this means is that younger generations don't trust stocks & bonds like boomers did. They want hard assets.
Another ATH! 🚀 Up 59% YTD
This isn't a blip. It's structural:
1) Fed rate cuts + US government shutdown driving safe-haven flows
2) Dollar index down 10% YTD as Trump disrupts trade & Fed independence
3) Central banks & retail investors buying at rapid pace, diversifying from Treasuries
The crazy part is that many quality miners are still priced for $2,000 gold. The revaluation is coming.
This bull market has years to run. Position accordingly. 📈
A solid milestone, but I think you're being conservative with that $6K target 🎯
My research (4 years analyzing gold cycles back to 1970) suggests we could see $10,000+ by early 2030s when you factor in:
Record central bank buying (1,000+ tonnes/year)
$5T+ fleeing Treasuries
$84T generational wealth transfer seeking alternatives
Technical breakout after decade-long consolidation
We're not even in the FOMO phase yet. When retail and institutions pile in? 🚀
The real alpha is in quality miners trading like gold's still at $1,500. That's where the 5-10x gains hide.
Early stages of a historic bull market. Of course, expect consolidation, but stack accordingly. 📊
Watch where the panic money goes!
When President Trump dropped a 100% tariff on China (effective Nov 1), crypto leverage got obliterated within hours.
Bitcoin fell from $125k to the low $100s.
Ethereum crashed below $4000.
$19 billion liquidated in 24 hours... one $203 million ETH position? Gone.
I read many heartbreaking posts from people who saw their lifetime profits, or total net worth, wiped out in an hour. Brutal.
When big policy bombs drop, here are 3 things to watch.
1 → Treasurys get bought up (real yields compress)
2 → The Dollar spikes
3 → Gold catches the flow of capital
Risky stuff gets dumped first. Then margin calls pile up. Then institutional money rotates into whatever central banks are hoarding in their vaults.
Gold barely flinched and soaked up the safe-haven bid while crypto got demolished by forced liquidations.
Now everyone's debating whether Bitcoin breaking $100k support kills the bull run, or if halving cycles and institutional buying mean the top's still coming.
But I personally think that's the wrong question.
I believe that price doesn't tell you what survives when things get ugly.
Flow does.
Where the money runs when everyone's freaking out shows you what people trust versus what they're just gambling on.
Very true.
But now we have AI data centers requiring 2-3 times more silver than traditional facilities. With global data center power demand forecast to rise 165% by 2030, that's not a small detail. These facilities need silver for advanced circuitry, power distribution, and thermal control.
The electronics industry already consumes about 250 million ounces annually.
Then there's solar. In 2023, photovoltaics consumed 142 million ounces of silver. That's 13.8% of total silver usage worldwide, up from nearly 5% in 2014.
We've been running at a significant silver deficit for 5 years now.
Peter, your subprime analogy is exactly right - gold's exploding past $4,000/oz with a 55% YTD surge, while the dollar index craters 10% in its worst drop since the '90s. If this is the canary in the coal mine for a debt blowup, then Wall Street is as blind as ever. Buckle up for 2026?
@Geiger_Capital In true precious metals bull markets (like this one), Silver outperforms Gold. That's exactly what we're seeing now. For 2025 to date, Silver is up 67%, Gold 55% and Nasdaq 19%.
@FluentInFinance Gold at $4k isn't random.
Three things always show up first: real yields flip negative, funding markets seize up, currencies start leaking.
Happened in Weimar. In 1971. In 1991.
