Friend of mine recently accepted a crazy good job offer. Gave his 2 weeks notice. 1 week later the offer was rescinded. My bro went from having 2 jobs to zero. 😭
@TheJackForge companies who rescind offers like that should have to cover losses
@KettlebellDan I think they should also. They are usually covered legally in some way that covers them tho
@TheJackForge @KettlebellDan Depends, given the offer and the failure to even get to the start date, I think there's an argument for promissory estoppel.
@TheJackForge @KettlebellDan If you have an actual letter from them and not just a verbal offer you can get something from them. Either the job or some $$ for a while to help you find a new job
@TheJackForge @KettlebellDan I know I've heard of cases where the company had to pay them for a few months, not sure if that was under federal or state law tho so could not work. Should check with a lawyer in his state.
@TheJackForge @KettlebellDan They do by paying 3 months of the agreed salary
@TheJackForge @KettlebellDan Well they are liable it's just that what is some broke, unemployed person gonna do? Hire a lawyer?
@TheJackForge @KettlebellDan I forget the exact name of the legal concept but the rescinding company is on the hook for I think two weeks pay and cost of moving reimbursement. Anything more than that would involve going to court.
@TheJackForge @KettlebellDan Not in the last two cases I was familiar with, both settled out of court
