@ryndia Definitely not impulsive. It will take me many months or years to make decisions sometimes 😅

@ryndia Over time, I was able to get very comfortable with my inner voice, and train it to the point of being able to communicate musical ideas to others while also being able to receive their input in real time. It's really a magical thing! (8/8)

@ryndia Yeah, so there's a couple things going on at the same time: I hear the physical instrument and internalize whatever pitch(es) I'm playing the entire time. I also hear what I'm about to play in my head for a brief time before it's actually played. (1/8)

@ryndia It takes a while to get to the point of being able to keep your own mental, musical circus in working-order, and simultaneously take the input of the other musicians around you. There's always a musical conversation happening on stage (some have more to say than others). (7/8)

@ryndia There's yet another angle to this, which is super important! It's being able to mentally juggle what was mentioned above while actively listening to the other musicians around you. Not just hearing; listening. (6/8)

@ryndia It's similar to how you read words in sequence, and your eyes are looking ahead, but with music notation, our brains are assigning pitch / rhythm ahead of time. (5/8)

@ryndia What's interesting to me is that some of this stuff may change, depending on the type of music I'm playing and whether I'm reading or not. If I'm reading sheet music, I am able to internalize the written pitches and rhythms of what's coming up before I actually play it. (4/8)

@ryndia which has taken a long time to be able to do at a high level. Being able to audiate (hearing/ understanding music without any being present) allows me to be able to practice while away from my instrument, or chart songs without being near an instrument. (3/8)

@ryndia (maybe think of it like a guitar hero track where you can see what's coming up, but in audio form?) This is especially noticeable when I'm playing a solo, or something improv-based. I express a musical idea in my head, and then that's transferred to the instrument, (2/8)

Disappointed that @rinasawayama 's Nashville, TN show didn't happen last month, but so thankful for the feeling of belonging and confidence her music delivers each time I listen. I'm honored to be a 0.1% pixel!
