My kid knows his multiplication tables and can still completely lose it if you correct him. Depends on the day. Those are 2 different skills and teachers keep grading the 2nd one as a character flaw because they can see the first one working. Give them the rest of the dets. 🦁
Week one of school is not a baseline. Almost every kid regresses somewhere in the first two weeks. Before you change anything about your kid, change the routine. Most first-month problems are executive function, not attitude. La primera semana no es la base.
Every behavior is doing a job. Escape, attention, access, or sensory. It works, or your kid would’ve quit doing it. Block it without teaching replacement it comes back louder. That’s not defiance, that’s math.Give them a faster easier way to get it. That’s the whole intervention.

“tell the teacher.” Come on. Sometimes she doesn’t see it. Sometimes telling makes it worse. Assertiveness isn’t aggression — it’s identity out loud. Starts with letting your kid tell YOU no. As practice, not disrespect. A kid who can’t disagree at home freezes🦁
