I must break my silence. I don’t think many people would remember the Phantom Menace duel nearly as fondly if the music were different. Yes the choreography is big and flashy but John Williams is like 80% of that whole sequence.

What I’m saying is Acolyte better not skimp on the score if they want this to stick.
@ThomasonTown Why did u feel silenced? That’s awfully 1 sided of a view you have there.
@ThomasonTown As much as I love John Williams, the best part of the fight is silent
@ThomasonTown Star Wars duels stopped mattering once an untrained Rey bested Kylo-Ren the first time she touched a saber LOL
@ThomasonTown @XWnHIST We’d never seen the duel athleticism that @IAMRayPark brought to Maul (and I don’t feel we’ve seen it since). It was a stunning sequence, with the Williams score the icing on the cake.
@ThomasonTown I am in the minority cause I actually don’t think the prequel sword fights hold up. They look like they’re swinging glowing weightless pool noodles. We love them cause they were faster than the originals. The sequel trilogy fights are better choreographed and more realistic.
@ThomasonTown You’re not wrong. The fight was very stiff and choreographed to my eyes, but the score elevated it. IMO the ESB duel was _the_ iconic duel of all of the films. It had the emotion and realism the others lacked, save the end of the RotJ fight.
@ThomasonTown I agree 70% However, exactly 0 sequences Disney has filmed for Star Wars so far give me any indication that the swordplay and choreography (especially post Qui-Gonn stabbing) can be matched. Much less topped.
@ThomasonTown and the stakes were high too. I’m all for trying to achieve an iconic duel, but they can’t match it without a banger score and something worth fighting for.
