Parker Pen just reminded me that great marketing doesn't always need a huge idea. Sometimes, it needs the right idea at the right moment. I came across Parker's recent “ThINK” campaign and honestly, the marketing strategy behind it is fascinating. The idea came from a creator who made an unsolicited anti-AI concept for Parker. It was simple: THINK → ThINK A pen brand using a pen to make a point about thinking in the age of AI. What happened next is what makes this interesting. The idea gained attention. Then Parker turned the conversation into an actual campaign, featuring creator-submitted concepts and taking the campaign to Times Square. And that's the part I really like. They didn't just say: “We're a pen company. Buy our pens.” They connected the product to a conversation people were already having — AI vs. human creativity. No complicated product explanation. No list of 20 features. Just: A pen → a thought → a cultural conversation. That's smart marketing. The lesson for me: Don't always try to create attention from scratch. Sometimes the better strategy is to find a conversation people already care about and make your brand naturally relevant to it. Parker didn't just advertise a pen. They made the pen part of the conversation.
