John Okinyo Ngonge known to many as Osogo Winyo is the only artist who has ever attracted unimaginable crowd in the history of Luo music of any genre ; for both paid and free shows. Remember, Osogo Winyo had once attracted a huge crowd till the police had to use teargas to scatter people for fear of possible stampede because even children forced their way. This was in Rangwe when he performed after the burial of the wife of Odero Wuo Rangwe aka Odero Omin Mercy. Odero was a member of Ohangla Boys Band ; a reputable Pianist and Composer. In 2010, his show at Ahero County club was briefly stopped because the venue was overcrowded. Tens of thousands of people came from as far as Kabar and my village Amboo. The bouncers couldn't manage the crowd and reinforcement had to be called from the nearby Ahero police station to bring sanity to the venue. It is considered the biggest ever show in Nyando Sub-County. No artist has ever come near that in terms of audience. Osogo is also considered one of the Luo artist who is so concerned with the welfare of his band members. He has always advices his band members to build houses back at home, register for NHIF cover for their families and invest with part of what they earn. Those who have worked with him like Awiko Jakabunde can confirm whatever am saying. He knows his band members from home (villages) and ensures that they don't misuse whatever he gives them. He always say " Kata kidwa chamo raha, jo odi nyaka uwe koyieng' kendo nitie maber" Osogo's songs like Lily Nyaugenya, Jacky Nyar Okumba and Ageng'o Wuod Orongo, Belinda and his latest are still hits. He nowadays performs in Mombasa which is where he actively kicked off his career . As young artists battle for the title KING OF OHANGLA, just know the REAL KINGS are SILENT. Long Live wuod Nyarongi.
@Thriving_luos The millionth time you're talking about him. He must be special.
@Thriving_luos In 2009, when he came to Songbird, Nyangweso, a man killed his 8 yrs son who had attended the show instead of chasing doves from the maize that had just been sowed.
@Thriving_luos adede owalla these are ur handwrittings
@Thriving_luos I am not an Ohangla fanatic but I love the way Osogo has not allowed his brand to be pulled into the 'competition' melee characterized by social media character assaults and the unmeritable race for production of pieces.
