Don't take rejection personally. Count it. Ten "no"s isn't failure. It's a metric. Most people quit at "no" number three and never find out where the "yes" was.
Got fired after 8 months. Zero placements. Boss didn't say "you're bad at this." He said "this isn't working." Both were true. Only one of them was useful. Then I moved to a small agency and became top producer. Same person, different room. If it's not working, change the room before you change yourself.
First real lesson in sales: the person who needs the deal least has the most power. Be willing to walk away from the client, the candidate, the deal. Desperation has a smell.
@MichLieben Same day is the part most teams skip. A visit is a warm moment for about an hour. After that you're a cold email again.
@russellbrunson Knowing what to do is free. In 10+ years of recruiting, the gap between the top producer and everyone else was never knowledge. It was who picked up the phone on a bad Monday. Not feeling it, scared of the next no, and dialed anyway.
@Codie_Sanchez Same in hiring. The candidate who ghosts after the final round hurts more than ten who never replied. Trust is what makes a miss expensive.
@Tim_Denning Busy is a feeling. Booked meetings is a number. In sales I stopped counting hours and only counted calls that ended with a next step.
@Tim_Denning Recruiting is the most boring business I know. Same calls, same follow-ups, and hours of repetitive research every week. It's also the reason I could build a firm from one desk.
@alxberman Works in recruiting too. Candidates answer it honestly in a way they never answer "are you open to a move?" The real reason is usually the second sentence.
@TheGeoMethod Add the quiet fourth one: "I don't trust you yet." In recruiting it hides behind "send me your info." Solving it takes a call, not an email.
@alxberman It's the same in recruiting. The firm that pays you the same split on your biggest quarter ever keeps its top producers. The one that moves the goalposts doesn't.
@randomrecruiter Same list from the client side: slow feedback, and then wanting a shortlist by Friday. The best candidates don't wait around for that.
@russellbrunson Hands-on, and it isn't close. I read every sales book there is. I only got good after 1,000 live cold calls where I got hung up on.
@Tim_Denning Recruiting taught me this. The ones who made real money weren't the smartest in the room. They made 60 calls on a Tuesday when nobody was checking.
@Tim_Denning That is where deep healing starts.
@russellbrunson Books and hands-on. Never really got into that video watching the young ones call learning.
@Tim_Denning Effort and also the ability to handle repetative and boring tasks at scale.
Honest question for anyone 22–28 who doesn’t know what to do with their life: What’s stopping you from trying sales for six months? I’ll answer every reply.
Most people lose a negotiation in the first minute by explaining too much. State your position. Stop talking. The silence does the work.
Used cars taught me more about people than my business degree. Everyone lies a little. Nobody likes being rushed. And trust beats the clever pitch every time.
