In 2006, we produced our first ever Allen & Ginter set. Nearly 20 years later, A&G is stronger than ever. But amongst a core group of collectors, 2006 A&G has become an all-time favorite. In addition to being the first Topps A&G set, the 2006 release also featured the first ever: - Rip Cards - No Number Mini SP’s - Bazooka Back Mini SP’s /25 - Wood Mini 1/1’s - Framed Mini Relics & Autos (A&G) All of these features have remained a staple of A&G releases from 2006-present. But perhaps most notably, 2006 A&G was one of the first popular Topps releases to include non-baseball (and even non-sport) subjects within the baseball checklist. From subjects like Takeru Kobayashi to Abraham Lincoln, and Barry Bonds to Danica Patrick, the set offered something for everyone. The 2006 autograph checklist featured all-time greats like Mike Tyson & Hulk Hogan, while the 2 non-sport relics were of a George Bush-worn Tie & JFK-worn Sweater . Even though there are *many* chase cards within this set, the Rip Cards might just be the most desirable among hardcore collectors. The Rip Card checklist in 2006 featured just 50 subjects numbered anywhere from /10 to /99. But these cards are even more rare than they seem… For those who don’t know, Rip Cards have a surprise mini card inside of them. And collectors, when they pull a Rip Card, are faced with the decision to rip the card open (to reveal the mini SP inside) or to keep the original card intact. It seems that a very high percentage of these cards were ripped open by collectors, making “unripped rip cards” all the more rare & desirable. Finding *any* unripped Rip Card from 2006 A&G can be a tall task. Maybe the most impressive 2006 A&G collection belongs to @GinterGoldFever, who has completed 94% of the Master Set (excluding 1/1’s)…we tip our cap to you and your museum-worthy collection! Do you collect A&G cards? Who do you want to see in 2024 A&G?
@Topps The only A&G card I care about is @ChrisVaccaro and nobody seems to have any of them for sale...Put him in the next set again with @IABF5
@Topps I nominate @jmpaquette since she’s broken barriers in the broadcasting industry! Normally I nominate myself for an Allen and Ginter card, but Jess is deserving this honor
@Topps Such a great set. I've always been happy to open packs without a care in the world whether I get rarities. I mean, I'll take 'em, but there isn't a "dud" box in existence.
@Topps Christine Sinclair deserves a spot....but she's 🇨🇦 and Topps hates us Canadians.
@Topps Hate to break it to you, but they weren’t the first rip cards. Not even close. Pinnacle Zenith hockey beat you to the punch by almost 10 years, lol.
@Topps Thanks for promoting one of the best sets of the year; but what about the Ginter Code?? The 2020 contest managed by @TheGinterCode has seen 1 RT since June ‘22. On behalf of a dedicated group, is it still on or have we been wasting our time for over 1185 days?? #thegintercode
