X2 was released on this day in 2003. In the 21 years (and plethora of superhero movies) since, it's easy to forget how brilliant X2 is. Various characters & plot well balanced Nightcrawler opening Magneto's escape Stryker vs X-Mansion Hugh Jackman finding his groove as Logan
Still one of Spielberg's finest. I stand by that.
A defence of Mission: Impossible 2: -Stylistically, stands out within the series -Hans Zimmer's score -The action sequences in last act are excellent & unashamedly over the top -Dougray Scott & Richard Roxburgh are solid villains -Anthony Hopkins' cameo -Serviceable enough plot
The Wolverine quietly goes under the radar as one of the top superhero movies; -Superb opening scene -Japanese culture & setting works well -Well choreographed fight scenes -Logan vs Shingen -Logan's closure with Jean Grey -Nicely paced & takes its time to breathe throughout
Dante's Peak is the standout in the sub-genre of 90s disaster movies; -Takes its time to establish the characters and build the tension -Pierce Brosnan is excellent -Brosnan & Linda Hamilton's chemistry -Practical/CGI combination really holds up -Plenty of focus on the science

A defence of Jurassic World: -Fully functional park is well-realised -Trained Raptors,though it grew tiresome in the next 2 movies,was well-implemented -Nostalgia used sparingly enough -Owen Grady is a solid lead -Indominus-Rex is a great design -The final fight -Aviary escape
A defence of Jurassic Park 3: -It's a straight-up, simple adventure as opposed to the convoluted nature of Fallen Kingdom & Dominion -The character of Erik Kirby (and his hideout) -Plane and aviary sequences -Spinosaurus design -Sam Neill -Evolution of raptors -Efficient pacing
A defence of Alien 3: -The gothic & industrial atmosphere -Charles Dance & Sigourney Weaver's chemistry (Clemens deserved better) -Elliot Goldenthal's bleak & unsettling score -Dance, Charles S. Dutton, Brian Glover, Ralph Brown, Pete Postlethwaite -It feels like an Alien movie
Might be just me but I've never understood the criticism Hayden Christensen got for the Star Wars prequels. Always thought he did a good job particularly in Revenge of the Sith.

@TuckyVersionOne My favorite non-DC comic book movie by a lot. I don’t think the MCU ever captured the kinetic, visceral feel of the first two X-Men movies.
@TuckyVersionOne The X movies were in the trash after this until First Class and Days of Future Past and then... they became trash again until Logan. Quite the journey with the X-Men.

@TuckyVersionOne I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I thought this was a step down from the first movie. Mind-control is a cheap plot device, and having the climax of the movie happen in a secret underground liar was cheesy and uninspired.
Alan Cumming was a life force in that movie, even minus the fucking murderously brilliant opening you get him saying dialogue like "Because most people will never know anything beyond what they see with their own two eyes." Marvelous.
