Tunde Onakoya beats a very worthy opponent and one of New York’s finest, National Chess Master Shawn Martinez! 6 hours down, 52 hours to go! #TundeChessMarathon
everyone learns that, in the opening, one has 3 essential tasks: 1. bring out the knoghts and bishops. 2. castle the king, usually kingside. 3. make some attempt, usually with the pawns, to control the center 4 squares of the chessboard. for point 3, however, in my games over the last decade, i have documented an interesting trend: my opponents who identify as "strongly conservative / republican" tend to try to occupy the center first, while those who identify as "stronly liberal / democrat" tend to first try to influence the center indirectly and only later move to occupy the center on their way to then attacking the rnemy king. what explains this duality, how specifically does it manifest itself during the game, and how, if at all, does foreknowledge of an opponents' political persuasion help you win more? see inside.
