The @ONS recently released data showing #AlcoholSpecificDeaths in 2022 were 4.2% higher than in 2021 and 32.8% higher than in 2019. In Parliament, I asked @andrealeadsom @DHSCgovuk to consider a stand-alone alcohol strategy based on this concerning trend.

As part of @UK_AHA we’re calling for a joined up strategy to tackle Alcohol. We’re also calling for much earlier detection of liver disease so that people still have time for the damage to be reversed if they stop drinking.

The @ONS recently released data showing #AlcoholSpecificDeaths in 2022 were 4.2% higher than in 2021 and 32.8% higher than in 2019. In Parliament, I asked @andrealeadsom @DHSCgovuk to consider a stand-alone alcohol strategy based on this concerning trend.

The increase in death rate from alcohol-specific causes was far lower in Scotland from 2018-2022 than in England. Scotland's increase was 9%. England's 36%. This is due to the Scottish Government introducing evidence-based prevention policies, such as Minimum Unit Pricing.
