Nigeria does not lack engineers. Nigeria does not lack contractors. Nigeria does not lack the technical knowledge to build durable highways. What we need is competent planning, transparent procurement, independent supervision, enforceable contracts, proper maintenance, and consequences for poor performance. We should not have to choose between fixing the Benin axis and building the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road. Fix the existing highways. Build new strategic corridors. Expand the network. And make every contractor financially accountable for the quality of the work delivered. A modern economy cannot operate on broken roads. Good roads are not a luxury. They are the arteries of a nation’s economy.
@CrypticNiggur @instablog9ja If it is industry standard, why is the minister of work not filling insurance claim and getting compensation instead of ordering the arrest of the contractor?
The Federal Government should make it mandatory for major road contractors to provide a performance bond or contractor’s insurance bond tied to the full value of the contract. If a contractor receives a ₦100 billion road contract, there should be meaningful financial security behind that obligation. The contract should clearly establish measurable standards for: Quality of materials and workmanship Engineering specifications Construction timelines Drainage and erosion control Load-bearing capacity Road durability and expected service life Independent inspection and certification Maintenance obligations Penalties for defective or substandard work If a contractor fails to meet these obligations, the government should be able to make a claim against the performance bond/insurance and recover the cost of correcting the defective work. This would fundamentally change the incentive structure. We cannot continue with a system where a road is commissioned, deteriorates shortly afterward, taxpayers are asked to fund another rehabilitation, and the original contractor bears little meaningful financial consequence.

The condition of Nigeria’s highways, especially the Benin axis, is becoming unbearable. Lives are at risk, businesses are losing money, and Nigerians are spending countless hours on roads that should be driving economic growth. We need to do both: urgently fix and maintain existing highways while building new corridors like the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road to reduce pressure on our major routes. But government must also hold contractors accountable. Every major federal road contract should require a performance/insurance bond equal to the contract value, so government can recover funds when contractors breach their obligations or deliver substandard work. We cannot keep spending billions to fix the same roads. Build better. Supervise properly. Maintain continuously. Hold contractors accountable. Nigeria deserves roads that work.

The CCTV footage released by the Minister of Aviation was intended to settle the controversy surrounding Mr. Peter Obi’s vehicle at the Abuja airport. Instead, it has raised even more questions. From what many viewers have observed, there were other vehicles parked in the same area, yet Mr. Peter Obi’s vehicle appears to have been the only one clamped. If that observation is accurate, Nigerians deserve an explanation of how the rules were applied. Justice is not only about enforcing the law, it is about enforcing it fairly and consistently. As a presidential candidate in the forthcoming election, Mr. Peter Obi is entitled to appropriate security considerations in public places. His security personnel have a duty to remain close enough to respond to any threat. That reality should also be considered when assessing the circumstances. Ironically, the same video tells another story; one that reflects Mr. Obi’s modest style. Unlike many Nigerian politicians who travel with long convoys of official vehicles or private jets, he arrived in a simple vehicle with a minimal entourage. That simplicity has become part of his public image and is evident in the footage itself. This issue should never have become a political contest. It should simply be about whether public officials and public institutions apply the rules equally to everyone. If there were multiple vehicles violating the same parking regulations, then the public deserves to know why only one became the focus of enforcement. It is also deeply disappointing to watch a public debate descend into accusations rather than objective analysis. Many Nigerians remember Festus Keyamo as a lawyer who built his reputation defending justice and challenging abuse of power. They naturally expect that same commitment to fairness regardless of who is involved. Public office should strengthen those principles, not diminish them. My late father often said, “If you live long enough, you will eventually see the true character of people.” Those words come to mind today. This is not about personalities or political parties. It is about ensuring that the law is applied fairly, transparently, and without selective enforcement. Nigeria deserves institutions that inspire confidence, not controversy. Accountability should never be mistaken for opposition, and asking legitimate questions should never be viewed as an attack.

The flooding around Lagos’ new Coastal Road is heartbreaking and raises serious questions that deserve honest answers and not politics. During my last visit to Lagos, I drove along the road and remember telling a friend, “Where are the drains? Where will all this water go when the rains come?” That concern has stayed with me. Building major infrastructure in a coastal city demands proper environmental studies, flood modeling, and effective drainage. These are the foundations of responsible engineering. Minister David Umahi should welcome an independent technical review of the project. Accountability is not an attack but rather it is leadership. Nature cannot be deceived. Politics cannot stop the rain. Lagos, and indeed Nigeria, deserves infrastructure built on science, planning, and transparency.
My Vision for a Productive and Prosperous Nigeria Today, being the 1st of July, 2026, I wish to humbly recall that when I decided to contest for the office of President of Nigeria, I pledged to place Nigeria on the path of unity and national transformation. Now, as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, I will, in the coming weeks and months, provide insights into the roadmap that I am confident will help curb abuse in government, halt the decline in the quality of life of Nigerians at all levels, and usher in an era of unity, peace, sustained progress, and prosperity. This vision is anchored on a commitment to unity, inclusion, social justice, equity, and the freedom of every citizen to pursue lawful dreams. Central to this proposed roadmap are significant reforms in education and healthcare, which are at the core of human capital development. Robust human capital is indispensable infrastructure for national progress. It serves as the fundamental capital upon which daily life, economic expansion, and the delivery of essential public services depend. These are foundational areas that we must reform with energy and determination if we are to reap the demographic dividend of our youthful population. From the outset of my presidency, we will establish a task force dedicated to drastically reducing the menace of out-of-school children. We will place greater emphasis on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to support our drive for massive industrialisation, anchored on our agricultural endowments and value addition across value chains organised around industrial parks to be located in development zones across the geopolitical regions of the country. Funding and improving the equipment of TVET institutions, through partnerships among government, the private sector, and social entrepreneurs such as faith-based educators, will facilitate apprenticeship opportunities in the private sector, similar to the German dual education system. The situation in which unemployment remains high while Nigerian entrepreneurs establish businesses elsewhere because skilled labour is scarce must be confronted decisively. Doing so is essential for the common good and for facilitating our transition from a consumption-driven economy to a production-driven one. Character and civic education, emphasising the values that foster trust - an essential ingredient for enterprise and leadership - as well as shared national values, will receive significant attention within the tripartite approach to governance that we propose. A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO
@benmurraybruce Who wan invest for a country that a sitting politician can influence court decisions? A country where the constitution is being translated into different meaning ? Where if I am in no good book of a politician ,he or she can use a rogue judge to confiscate my investment
All Nigerians deserve a chance to choose their new leader through a free, fair, transparent, and peaceful process. As election day nears, I urge the political parties and candidates to live up to their pledge to respect the election results and support a peaceful transition.

BREAKING: Governor Ortom has officially endorsed Peter Obi. This is what I expected from Wike. Let the games begin.🔥👏👏
The video they have been cooking against Peter Obi of LP is out. This lady was the instrument they used. Peter Obi @PeterObi finally exposed.
Obi has inspired a zealous movement of mostly youths and disrupted Nigeria’s traditional two-man presidential contest. But can he go all the way and win the vote? 👇 aje.io/ekdagi
