@spsmith45 You're right. I don't think they're ready to grasp how the perfect tense is formed with both auxiliary verbs. I introduce chunks and point out patterns such as -er becomes -é and so on but I'm not more explicit than that. Should I be?

@cusgen I think you've got the right approach. I'm likely to do the same although colleagues in my department are quite resistant.

@cusgen Do you use the 1st person with your chunks or vary the pronouns? When would you introduce your students to explicit grammar explanations?

@spsmith45 I think you're absolutely right. At what stage would you introduce students to the explicit grammar rules? I'm thinking at the start of Year 10 GCSE. What do you think?

@spsmith45 That's what I've been thinking, but I'm under pressure from colleagues who are teaching full conjugations of present tense verbs to Year 8. I'm going to stick to the first person though like you suggest.

@spsmith45 @joedale I would really like to see it in action, but as I'm not a middle leader or above it's unlikely that I'd be allowed out to visit a school.

@spsmith45 @joedale I do wonder if it depends heavily on the personality and energy of the teacher. Five hours of that intensive teaching style must be quite tiring. Their students expect that approach in all lessons, I think. I'm wondering if it would work in just one department - MFL or not.

@spsmith45 It's quite good. It allows you to pause the dialogue to make notes on vocabulary and listen again. You can slow the dialogue down too. My 6th formers really like it.

@spsmith45 Excellent. Have you used the Netflix for language learning app (LLN)? It shows original-language programming with subtitles in English and original language.
