Just a small throwaway comment on the upcoming G3 Saudi Arabia Royal Cup, but I'm interested in Bell Wood Deep based on the training video I recently watched. He's looking very sharp & it would be a nice poetic event for him to stick out as a G1-winning ride for Miura.

Why representation really matters! Britain's first Black trainer Gihan Arnolda is hoping to inspire the next generation... @joshapiafi #TheRaceAhead #BlackHistoryMonth

Progress has been slow but I managed to get the results for the Sprinters' Stakes out as well as my analysis if anyone's interested in giving it a read! anumafanexplainsbadly.com/2026/10/06/the…

@Caminopoi @NakayamaFesuta1 It's supposed to be an insult to suggest that a racehorse seems overspecialised towards one racecourse. With Daryz's case, he's the Longchamp expert with all of his wins, G1s included, being on the racecourse with his only loss there being to CDN. He's hella good there honestly.

Daryz and Croix du Nord both are representing their 2025 Generation both currently have the same number of G1s (4) Daryz the specalist won all his G1 in Longchamp meanwhile Croix du Nord the all rounder won his G1 in 4 different racetracks strong horses are such a blessing😌

2026 Sprinters Stakes 🥇 Puro Magic (Asia Express x Medjerda (Deep Impact)) When people think of a sprinter, they might picture a big, heavily muscled horse, but the IBIS Summer Dash is actually a race where smaller fillies like this win fairly often. It’s not as simple as big horses being better suited to sprinting and small horses to longer distances. Think about why smaller horses so often tend to have more explosive acceleration, and racing gets a lot more interesting. You can see statistical trends with TT too, like being more suited to longer distances or having a lower overall win rate. But among the horses people would call truly top-class, you actually find quite a few TT horses. Reality is complicated. Statistics are useful, but if you handle them the wrong way, they can lead you to some pretty silly conclusions. 🎥kontena

One thing I appreciate Bonnie for talking about is animal welfare. Japan has taken steps but is still a work in progress, same as other nations (Europe and HK included, along with AUS).

I recognise that sometimes I come off strong; but at the end of the day, I just care about horses and racing as a sport & want it to improve. I don’t have any agenda other than improving welfare and the treatment of racehorses by talking about it, and having these things known

Should I do a behavior analysis on the iconic quirky horses and show y'all what's a stress behavior and what's actually a quirky behavior?

just because something is “business standard” doesnt mean its shouldnt be questioned. yes, panja tower was acting up. yes, he was confirmed to be fine health-wise post-race. NO, that doesnt excuse the fact that he appeared whipped rather harshly. the fact that this happened +

I am genuinely very frustrated that my posts are being interpreted as me just hating Japan. This is really nasty to even imply My criticisms have always been strictly within the context of horse racing & the treatment of horses. Nothing else

For anyone who's interested in a pretty thorough breakdown of the upcoming G1 Sprinters' Stakes, I have a blog post up on this if you're interested in reading it! The review will come later on ideally in a few days' time... anumafanexplainsbadly.com/2026/09/27/the…

The most common races in Japan are actually dirt sprints. Almost all NAR races are run on dirt, and a huge number of them are sprints. Even in the JRA, nearly half the races are on dirt. So just in terms of the number of races available, there’s more demand for horses that can handle dirt. If a horse can only run on turf, there’s almost nowhere for it to go in NAR. It basically has to make it in the much tougher JRA, so producing that kind of horse carries more risk. And the big farms are overwhelmingly strong in classic-distance turf racing. For small and mid-sized breeders, producing horses that can run on dirt is simply the safer option. But the money at the top works differently. The biggest races are on turf over middle and longer distances, and at sales like the Select Sale, the highest prices go to horses seen as classic-distance turf prospects. Dirt pedigrees rarely sell for huge money. There’s plenty of demand for dirt horses, but if the stud fee is high, there’s not much profit left for the breeder. So at the top end you have a relatively small number of expensive turf horses aimed at classic distances, while the lower end is filled with a much larger number of dirt horses.

Top 20 stud fees of 2026: stallions standing in Japan

The best trainers do this. The best trainers modify the training program of their athletes. Each horse is an individual. Each horse may need something else, whether it's shaking up their training programs and/or living environments. This is what it means to put the horse first.

Decided to summarize my feelings about Austrian Painter as someone who does in fact have a modicum of authority to speak.

The top-heavy nature of JRA keiba is well known. The four farms of the Shadai group represent 38% of the horses in uma. This underrepresents their current dominance: in '25 Yoshida-bred horses won 50.8% of aggregate prize money by the top 100 JRA breeders with 22.9% of starts

To be honest. I want to see Lovcen win triple crown, but also want him to get beaten. Regardless of the result, both outcome is fine because it will give us great spectacle. I'm sorry guys...😖🙏

Thank god Lovcen is still a horse. I can see he got beaten in Kikuka Sho if Kohei Matsuyama ride him hesitantly.

A book that fundamentally challenges what we know about the creation of the Thoroughbred. The traditional tale of the creation of the Thoroughbred, centred on three great stallions — the Darley Arabian, the Godolphin Arabian and the Byerley Turk — appears to be largely a deliberate rewriting and distortion of history. After nearly twenty years of research, archaeologist and historian Miriam Bibby has brought local British horses back to the forefront of the story of the modern racehorse, particularly the Scottish Galloway and the Irish Hobby, whose importance was subsequently largely forgotten. This local British genetic contribution to the origins of the Thoroughbred was partly overlooked for political reasons, at a time when some members of the English elite were deeply distrustful of the Scots. The Thoroughbred thus emerged, primarily in northern England and close to the Scottish border, from the crossing of these local populations with numerous Oriental horses — perhaps as many as 200 — including Barbs, Turks and Arabians. Miriam Bibby’s new book, Early Modern Thoroughbred Historiography and its Legacy: Founding Fathers, Forsaken Mothers, is due to be published shortly. The result of nearly two decades of research, it challenges much of the traditional narrative surrounding the origins of the Thoroughbred. amazon.fr/-/en/Miriam-Bi…

@NakayamaFesuta1 That being said, I'm curious to see how the likes of Sol Oriens, Croix du Nord, Wilson Tesoro, &c. might do as studs. Should they do well, Kitasan Black's value might not shake down as much & could still stick around as a "sire of sires" stud to go for.

@NakayamaFesuta1 ok Daring Tact's owner might not be bullshitting when he felt that Equinox could be Japan's next superstar sire.
