Wow! 3 new clients using Quickbooks Online that had books so messed up that they have to be repaired before tax returns can be drafted. QBO is deceptively simple. Most DIY'ers/less experienced bookkeepers do a poor job and end up overpaying on their taxes. We prefer Xero.

March 15 - Due date to file a return or extension for S Corporations and Partnerships (and LLC's that are not disregarded entities). If you are in CA and received a PPP loan, you should probably file an extension until CA allows the expenses paid with PPP to be deductible.

Have you ever said "I told you so" to a client? A couple years ago, I told a client to put two sales associates on payroll. They refused saying they were too small. Yesterday they received a notice of penalty, interest and back tax from the CA EDD. CA is aggressive.

Happy Friday! If you are a business owner and have independent contractors, you will be using the 1099-NEC (not the 1099-MISC). Last time 1099-NEC was used was 1982. So even the IRS gets a "blast from the past" sometimes. Due date is January 31, 2021 for the 2020 tax year.
