Fleet safety managers: when a driver says, "I didn't see the pedestrian," what's the first follow-up question you ask?
Understanding where someone's attention was focused can open up a much more useful coaching conversation.
Curious how your team approaches this.
You can watch the car directly ahead and still miss a developing hazard.
The key to hazard recognition is noticing what's changing around you before it becomes a problem.
Watch this simulation twice. What did you miss the first time?

Quick question for driving instructors:
Which pre-drive habit deserves more attention?
A) Setting Do Not Disturb
B) Planning the route
C) Adjusting mirrors and seating
D) Checking whether you're fit to drive
What's your pick, and why?
As #TeenDriverSafetyWeek wraps up, here's a question for instructors:
What's one driving behavior students understand in theory but need repeated practice to get comfortable doing?
We're particularly interested in the gap between knowing the rule and applying it.
Fleet trainers: what takes more coaching time than people outside the industry realize?
Backing into a tight delivery site? Moving through a crowded yard? Navigating an unfamiliar route?
Interested in the everyday driving situations that deserve more attention.
@safekids Stop-arm discipline is exactly what simulator training builds: new drivers can rehearse school zones and bus stops again and again until slowing down and stopping right is instinct, not luck.
If you could give every new driver ONE extra practice scenario before they drove alone, which would you choose?
A difficult left turn?
A highway merge?
A pedestrian hidden by parked cars?
Driver-ed instructors, we'd love to hear your picks.
School bus safety question for driver-ed instructors:
When a bus ahead starts slowing near a stop, what's the FIRST clue you teach students to recognize?
The lights? The movement of the bus? People near the curb?
How do you approach this lesson?
Here's a driver-ed question worth debating:
If a student knows exactly when to stop for a school bus but fails to notice the bus slowing ahead, have they really mastered the lesson?
Knowing a rule and recognizing when to apply it are different skills.
Day 2 at DSAA! It’s been great seeing attendees get behind the wheel and experience our VDI driving simulators firsthand.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by! If you're at the show, come give our simulators a try!

Parents of new drivers: what made you comfortable handing over the keys for that first solo trip?
Was it the amount of practice, a specific decision you saw them make, or something else?
Curious what that moment looked like for you.
@FMCSA Love this, learning to share the road with large trucks and buses is one of the hardest skills for new drivers, and it's not something you can practice safely on a real road. That's exactly why we build hazard scenarios like this into our driving simulators.
Parents can reinforce safe driving habits, but knowing the rules doesn't always mean a new driver can apply them under pressure.
That's where practice and debriefing matter.
What driving situation do you think parents underestimate when teaching their teens?
For the 20th annual National Teen Driver Safety Week, the National Safety Council is encouraging parents, caregivers and community organizations to help young drivers put safety first on the road. bit.ly/NSCnewsroomNTD…
@impactdrivers The hard part isn't convincing teens that seat belts matter. It's getting comfortable speaking up when a friend doesn't buckle up.
That social pressure belongs in driver education, too.
We're joining X during #TeenDriverSafetyWeek with one question for driver-ed instructors:
What's the first clue a student should recognize before a driving situation becomes dangerous?
Because the best teaching moments often begin before the mistake.
