And here is what I’m talking about. Mikale here is suggesting I am now suspicious because I am a Claremont fellow. But you know who else are Claremont fellows? iBen Shapiro, Charlie Kirk, Mollie Hemingway, Mark Hemingway, Ross Douthat, Laura Ingraham, and more. Are all of us now suspect? Claremont is a broad organization and many conservatives have been a part of their programs. But that is my point, Mikhail is an account that showed up on the scene recently and is now trying to assert his expertise. Yet comments like this revealed that he has none. So he is trying to cast aspersions on me not because of views I have espoused which Mikale here is not debating. He is not quoting something I’ve said or written that he finds troubling, just the fact of my having gone through the Claremont program. And as I said, so has Ben Shapiro and many other known and trusted conservatives. So that’s what these people are asking you to do. They are asking you to assess suspicion on loose associations like this. Not based on what people are saying, but based on who they have at some point been connected to. Of course, I believe that paying attention to funding is important. But funding is only one piece of it. You have to show that the funding bought a particular message. Not just that someone donated money somewhere. This is the kind of Soviet style inquisition that I am talking about. It is not American and it certainly has nothing to do with opposing communism or Marxism. As a tactic, it is Marxist itself.
