I wrote this short blurb about Michael J Fox (@realmikefox) for the annual #Time100. This man means a lot to me. And I know he means a lot to you… ⬇️ I know Michael J. Fox. Like, I know him pretty damn well. He’s funny. He’s warm. He’s handsome and intensely smart. He also falls a lot. Not just because he has Parkinson’s. He falls a lot because he’s unafraid to fly. I met Mike 17 years ago. I’ve watched him raise the bar for purpose and passion. It’d be kinda lazy to simply characterize him as the greatest champion of Parkinson’s research on the planet. He’s someone who helped my dad, along with millions of others, feel less alone. It’d be kinda lazy to simply regard him as a movie star who shaped the lives of people all over the planet with a uniquely electric wit and self-aware charm. He’s the sum of these beautiful parts. And so many more. Last year I watched Back to the Future with my 8-year-old daughter. It’s become her favourite film. And for now, that’s enough for me—and her. One more kid from one more generation sees what I saw. I know how lucky I am to call Mike a friend. She still has no idea that I know him. I don’t need to teach my daughter the level of compassion Mike has mastered. Or teach her to tell stories the way Mike tells stories. I need to teach her that it’s OK to fall a lot. It’s the absolute best way to know you’re flying.
@VancityReynolds @realmikefox "The Secret of My Success" is my top favorite film. It taught me that life is full of twist & turns and all of it (the good and the not so good) can be used to lift you higher; to assist you in accomplishing your biggest dreams. 🙏🏼🫶🏻
@VancityReynolds @realmikefox Was devastating news here as well.. Partially knowing how close some people are to new solutions within the decade..... There are always ways to carry different torches and sometimes, the torch carries us, and that might be ok, maybe..... Deadpool would know~<3
@VancityReynolds @realmikefox What a nice sentiment from you Ryan to Michael J Fox. You are a Class Act !!! @thndrmg1swife72 @MaximumEffort Never change I'm sure u made his day !!!
Back to the Future was my childhood. Michael J. Fox has also been an inspiration for me. I got a chronic illness at 26 which resulted in losing a lot of my mobility over the last 12 years. Seeing someone like Michael take their illness in stride, be an advocate for helping others and always having a positive outlook is in my opinion, what it's about.
@VancityReynolds @realmikefox The world needs more of this…
Thanks for sharing the personal story Ryan. I had the pleasure of meeting Mike back in 2015 (ironic considering 'when' he travels to in BTTF 2) during one of his local golf tournaments in BC -- saying I got to meet my hero that day is an understatement. Big thanks to him and to you for doing BC (and Canada) proud 🇨🇦 Where we're going, we don't need roads...🚓🔥⚡️
@VancityReynolds @realmikefox Beautifully written 🥹
@VancityReynolds @realmikefox Very touching. Got me teary eyed.
@VancityReynolds @realmikefox Two legends. Thanks Mike for teaching me that if I just put my mind to it, I can accomplish anything. you may have changed your “dad’s” life in the movie… but I was 8 years old when I first hear that from you, and I was never the same. Congrats on making the Time 100!
@VancityReynolds @realmikefox The line between failure and success is finite, here is to those who show us how to fall towards success!
