We killed the vague "Partial result" headline on completed scans. If 3 events couldn't be priced, it now reads: "Complete — 3 events could not be priced (excluded from totals)". A number you can't explain is a number you can't trust: verilot.app/check

Form 1099-DA means brokers now send the IRS their own view of your disposals. Where a broker never saw your acquisition, the basis field is where the gap shows. Find the gaps before the filing does: verilot.app/check

Rev. Proc. 2024-28 made per-wallet basis tracking the rule from 2025. Per-wallet is exactly the mode where an unlinked self-transfer looks like a $0-cost acquisition. The check: for each sale, can your tool show you the acquisition it matched? verilot.app/check

Coins acquired in 2015, moved between your own wallets in 2016, sold in 2021. If the tool lost the basis at the 2016 transfer, it prices that 2021 sale against zero. That's the whole mechanism. Worked example: verilot.app/blog/45m-phant…

We ran two cost-basis rules over the most public wallet cluster on Ethereum. Same engine, same data. The only difference: whether self-transfers keep their basis. The naive rule overstates lifetime realized gains by $44,975,739. Method and balance tie-out: verilot.app/blog/45m-phant…

2022 on this cluster: $31,336,181 of realized gains reported by the naive rule. $10,476,703 once basis crosses the entity's own transfers. Same disposals. Same prices. One assumption. verilot.app/blog/45m-phant…

Verilot is live on Product Hunt today. We ran five publicly tagged Vitalik-linked wallets through one engine twice — same data, same disposals, same prices. The only difference was whether the engine knew the wallets belonged to one owner. Linking off: $164,130,459 in "realized gains". Linking on: $119,154,719. The $44,975,739 difference is phantom. A per-wallet tool that doesn't link your wallets books coins arriving from your own address at $0 cost. On a public cluster we measured what that does across 8 years: $164.1M reported vs $119.2M actual. verilot.app/blog/45m-phant…

A phantom gain is a profit in your tax report that never happened in your life. Almost always the same cause: a $0 cost basis where the software lost the acquisition record. How it happens: verilot.app/blog/crypto-ph…

The IRS no longer lets you pool cost basis across wallets. Since Jan 1 2025, wallet-by-wallet tracking is required, and most software made that split for you without asking. If the split was wrong, so is every gain since: verilot.app/blog/per-walle…

Your crypto tax tool doesn't know a bridge from a sale. Move funds between your own wallets, or bridge chains, and cost basis quietly resets to $0 — showing up as gains you never made. Verilot flags exactly which transactions got mislabeled: verilot.app

"Missing purchase history" isn't a bug. It's Koinly saying a sale got a $0 cost basis because it never saw the coins arrive. Every crypto tax tool has this failure mode. Common causes, and fixes: verilot.app/blog/koinly-mi…

Form 1099-DA lands in early 2027 with a box most people will misread: Box 1g, cost basis. A blank box does not mean zero basis. Software often assumes otherwise. What Box 1g reports, and how to reconcile it: verilot.app/blog/form-1099…

We ran Verilot on Vitalik's public wallets. Wallet-linking off: $164.1M "realized gains. " Linked: $119.2M. The $44.9M gap is phantom - gains that only exist because a per-wallet tool loses cost basis on transfers between someone's own wallets. verilot.vercel.app
