@That_Wrench_Guy Depends what kind of prayer book you are looking for. If you want a large collection, The Raccolta is likely a good bet. If looking for smaller books with the main prayers, there's a lot to choose from that would serve that purpose. For daily prayers, Magnificat is a nice option.

Friends, whether you agree or disagree, I urge you to let your opinions on this grave matter be shaped only by dispassionate reason and moral principle rather than anger and partisanship. My critique of Trump’s Gaza proposal, at @NCRegister ncregister.com/commentaries/f…

@acloudofsaints Great idea! Silent prayer can be hard to approach so I think it's important for people to have the validation that it's good to start small. Otherwise it's easy to get discouraged and give up trying.

@JackFromAtlanta And to clarify, this condemnation only applies to reproductive technologies that divorce procreation from the marital act. The Church has not condemned procedures that can be argued merely to assist the marital act, e.g. GIFT (gamete intrafallopian transfer)

@JackFromAtlanta Wrong for the parents to create a baby apart from the marital act. This objectively violates their marriage in separating procreation from sex. And it harms the baby too, who is created in a lab dish instead of the womb.

1/ Ordo Amoris: Do I Love My Family More Than a Stranger? @JDVance made headlines this week when he introduced into public discourse the Catholic teaching on the Ordo Amoris. Let's review what this is all about. 🧵👇

@Brian_O_Mars That is precisely what the order of charity refers to - share what you can of what you have, within right reason. What you have should first go to your family's needs, before giving the surplus to others. The order of charity explains this.

@Brian_O_Mars The order of charity prohibits positively harming anyone. But it does not prohibit, say, choosing to spend your money on medical care for your own kid instead of spending it to save some random kid's life from cancer.

@Brian_O_Mars The issue is, what does that mean? In practice, we can wish well to everyone, but we have limited resources to act. The order of charity was developed precisely to explain why it is wrong to do stuff like donate all your money to Africa when you have your own kids to feed

So, logically this means you need to spend your time loving and advocating to meet the needs of people that seem most strange to you and unlike you- for instance Latin Mass attached Catholics.

Actually no. This misses the point of Jesus's Parable of the Good Samaritan (Lk 10: 25-37). After Jesus tells a lawyer that you should "love your neighbor as yourself," the lawyer asks him, "And who is my neighbor?" In response, Jesus tells the story of a Jewish man who has

@Brian_O_Mars Yes, there is a respect in which we are to love all people equally in desiring generally their good and salvation. This doesn't conflict with the order of charity, which points to the fact that we can't treat everyone equally and sometimes have to prioritize some over others.

@LeMeTellUSumtin I fail to see any contradiction here? The traditional order of Christian charity of course places Jesus first. But Jesus first doesn't change anything about the rest of the order. It is simply common sense we owe more to our families than to random strangers.

Update: situation resolved and I can look back at it as the time I clashed with heterodoxy and won. I'm out of a terrible class and have a great independent study plan instead. Thanks for the prayers.

In a very bad situation now where tensions with a professor have caused me to withdraw from a course and I may or may not be able to complete my theology major before graduation. Prayers appreciated.
