@BeachWoolacombe @wavelengthmag This is the difference in the level of birdsong at the festival site before and after the Spring Classic...

@kayenightingale @trev_toes @BeachWoolacombe @DevonLifeEd @ChrisGPackham @explorethecoast You often see them up on Woolacombe Down, but unusual to see them as low down as on the beach! Hopefully it isn't down there because of being displaced by the huge amount of works going on higher up for the festival.

@BuzzingDevon @BumblebeeTrust @nationaltrust @BeachWoolacombe @kayenightingale @EscapedHere Beautiful, but isn't this the field being used for the festival? Be intetesting to see how the wildflowers withstand that.

@BeachWoolacombe @nationaltrust @NorthDevonNT @RobJoulesND @kayenightingale It's not 'just 3 days' if Woolacombe Down is being permanently changed and developed in preparation for the festival....

@BeachWoolacombe To quote from the AONB's objection to the work that has now effectively happened at this site: "The local landscape is characterised by high levels of tranquility, very high scenic quality and a sparsely settled and peaceful." The festival is totally at odds with this.

@BeachWoolacombe No planning app and this is almost identical to the application for the proposed car park in 2020 which was withdrawn after council and AONB expressed concerns on the impact on the AONB and rural environment.

@RobJoulesND @skiingrhino @NorthDevonNT But why not try and inspire them in a way that doesn't involve luring them there with the promise of booze, skate parks & a motorbike/ music festival? There are plenty of people who love this area for what it is and there are plenty who won't because it's simply not their thing.

@woolacombemayor @shrimpo_dj @BeachWoolacombe @TheBigfellainc @Newman20Peter @NorthDevonNT @nationaltrust And there are plenty of us who 'live here' who think it's utterly horrendous to hold a festival in this particular location.

@RobJoulesND @skiingrhino @NorthDevonNT 3) If nowhere can just be left for quiet enjoyment without having to be 'enhanced' by music, noise, skate parks etc. because some people might prefer that to the natural beauty around them, then where is the line? Some would probably prefer the space be utilised for housing...

@RobJoulesND @skiingrhino @NorthDevonNT Well 1) the event is going to massively impact those who live locally so pretty hard to avoid...2) That is a bizarre attitude to the natural environment you manage - it wasn't gifted to be used as a commercial venue, rather to be preserved as it is for future generations.

@RobJoulesND @skiingrhino @NorthDevonNT But they're not 'experiencing' Woolacombe Down in its natural, peaceful and wonderful state. They're going to a music, skate and motorbike festival that happens to be held there and ruining the peace and tranquility that makes it such a special in the first place.

@BeachWoolacombe Spring Classic site (red) on Woolacombe Down (blue). Plus, according to the plans: 'due to the size of the site, there is no cap on the space available for use as car parks'. Up to 1200 cars anticipated on site for 2022.

@EscapedHere @NorthDevonNT @ExmoorPonyClub @RestoreTrustNT @BeachWoolacombe Ponies will be incorporated into the festival as an 'attraction' it seems.

@mrsmacscrochet @EscapedHere @BeachWoolacombe Turns out the ponies are yet another one of the festival attractions along with the skate park and motorbike show - I'm sure they will be thrilled.

@NorthDevonNT @CarlBovisNature @BeachWoolacombe @ChrisGPackham @DeborahMeaden The lack of willingness to genuinely engage with any concern around this event is hardly helping...on Twitter, via email, at the zoom session - any difficult questions are effectively dodged, redirected & met with 'it'll be fine' but with no credible specifics to support that.
