Wanda Dench is an Arizona grandmother who became famous in 2016 for accidentally texting an invitation to Thanksgiving dinner to Jamal Hinton, then a 17-year-old high schooler. Hinton, who has since grown a social media following, jokingly accepted the invitation, starting a tradition of the two celebrating the annual holiday.
The heartwarming story of Wanda Dench and Jamal Hinton is being adapted into a Netflix movie. The film, aptly titled "The Thanksgiving Text", will recount the true story of how Hinton and Dench met and how they've maintained their friendship and holiday tradition over the years. The duo will help develop the feel-good tale into a screenplay, which is set to be written by Abdul Williams. Another intriguing aspect of their story is the continuation of their Thanksgiving tradition even in the face of adversity. When Dench's husband of 42 years, Lonnie, tragically passed away in April 2020 after a battle with COVID-19, the tradition did not falter. The Thanksgiving tradition continued as a small, socially distanced gathering before the holiday that year. Their story has not only warmed the hearts of many but also inspired acts of kindness. In December 2020, Hinton and Dench raffled off a PlayStation 5 and an opportunity to join them for dinner. This act of generosity further solidifies their commitment to spreading love and positivity, proving that their story is more than just a viral Thanksgiving tradition.
@VisionaryVoid @fasc1nate I hear Angela Bassett is gonna play her in the Netflix movie.
Shout out to my sister Ali and her hubby Chris Sitting in a restaurant in Yarrawonga they noticed an elderly (90’s) man sitting alone . My sister sent her 8 year old grand daughter to ask him if he wanted to join them to eat . He did and he told stories of his war journey and his wife in the nursing home . At the end my sister went to pay for them all including the elderly man . To her surprise and tears another table had noticed what they had done and paid for all of them before they left. That’s a double kindness right there . Made me cry Bless xxx Credit: Helen Lillian Jonbonjovi -facebook.com/helen.frichot/
