Copy of email sent to Bonnie and Scott letting them know that unless they backpay people for the technology stipend that has been REQUIRED by law for many employees, we will continue to let them know they are breaking the law. Let's see how long it takes @Pulsipher_WGU to respond
Our first WIN!!! $50 monthly technology stipends for all! (Those who live in the 10 states that have a law regarding this are entitled to backpay for every month they have been employed with WGU- Contact HR). Just imagine what else we can do with the formation of a union!
The audacity! @marnibstein You always portray yourself as an educational leader who cares. You have allowed policies to put your employees through true hell- debilitating stress, anxiety, and depression. Shame on you for posting this. You are not an advocate for mental health.
One of our colleagues had to leave WGU today. "The hours away from my family during dinner hours and on weekends, with no evening/weekend differential, was over the top and there was/is no relief in sight. I'm tired."
"The answer to every complaint is "it's best for the students if we do it this way". That is literally used all day every day. Even if it contradicts rules that the management makes."
"Some new hires were told that they had to work one weekend, but not that they also had to work until 8 pm twice a week. Then after they signed the letter were told that they must meet both requirements."
"During our self-reflection regarding our annual performance, I was instructed that I should not rate myself as outstanding, even though I had documentation to prove that I met that level."
"I have been asking for three years what I need to do to become a senior course instructor and the only reply I received is that they are 'working on a list' yet somehow people still get promoted."
"There is an undergraduate course (D127) that is exactly the same as a master's level course (D128)."
"No lunch, no breaks, and no time to use the bathroom are the normal. Forget you, 'get to the students, students are waiting, get to the students': That's all we hear from our managers. We work in a place where we get in trouble for using the bathroom if students are waiting."
"During training, it was literally said that it's better to take care of others than yourself. And was also thought to be funny that most people work during their time off. This behavior is encouraged when it should not be."
"If you work on the East coast you are basically working every night, which does not leave time to do things with family. Especially if you are a single mother/father with young children. You cannot put them to bed."
"Bottom line upfront I’m concerned that given the current work environment several people are thinking about leaving WGU which only makes things worst unless their concerns are addressed."
"The fear of all employees is retribution from administrative staff and faculty. When the union protects the employees this will come out."
Check Workday. Make sure these laws are being followed. California just passed a similar law and several others are following closely behind.
