Foggy CW sunrise activation of Lackawanna State Park. 35 QSOs in 50 minutes. Not the leisurely POTA I’m used to. Mostly 40m w/ 4 on 20m including VK3OU in Australia ;)). IC7200, 40m EFHAW, 20W and WA1JOS touch key. Also hunter @N4JAW.
Coming up this weekend at the RSGB National Radio Centre:
▶️Saturday 27 September - World War Two SOE station, GB1SOE will be set up in the foyer
▶️Sunday 28 September - the Centre be hosting three special one-off broadcasts to mark the 70th anniversary of GB2RS. Go to…
Trimmed down some 30-06 cases and installed them in place of my Steel contact brackets. Also buffed out the feeler gauge, did a little wire management, and put a strain relief on the cable. Works like a charm now. I use about 99.9% as a sideswiper, but put the switch on anyway.
After some consideration of WRL logger, I’ve decided it’s not for me. Going back to Ham2K. Probably great for laptop logging and occasional phone use. That is just not how I operate.
Logged for the first time with World Radio League today. The only thing I don’t like is it doesn’t show the QRZ info from the log entry screen. It is nice to have the Name pop up so I can reply with theirs. Having my logs available on my laptop and phone is a fair trade off.
Another nice CW sunrise. Tried 20m for 10 minutes with only 2 RBN spots (both to the UK) and 0 QSOs. 21 QSOs in 30 minutes on 40m. Closed out by hunting for 7 P2Ps in 10 minutes. 20W with the Wolf River Coils 213 in vertical and silver bullet mini.
A full-halo CME was observed 30 Aug. It is expected to arrive at Earth late afternoon of 1 Sep EDT and continue into early morning of 2 Sep. Confidence of Earth arrival is high, timing and intensity certainty is fair - with a chance for G4. Visit spaceweather.gov for more
Nice sunrise POTA at Lackawanna State Park US-1368 in NEPA. 19Qs, IC7200, WRC silver bullet mini and 213” vertical, SpeedX straight key. All 40m QRP CW. Called CQ a handful of times and had my 10 in 15 minutes. Spent the last 20 minutes hunting for 4 P2Ps
On an antenna note, my tripod mounted 213 inch vertical worked so well that I’m going to upgrade it to a KJ6ER POTA Performer paired with a homemade base loading coil to get 40 meters. Links below.

Just back from my favorite dead zone in the Monongahela National Forest in WV. 2 CW activations on 8/9 & 8/12. First had terrible conditions. 19 Qs in 40 minutes on 8/12. 2 CA, WA, OR, FL, ME & some in between. 20W, IC7200, WRC 213” vertical on my new tripod mount.
Ginned up a little adapter bracket for my camera tripod to play with this morning. Pulled the center post out and mounted my CB mirror mount bracket to it. Should be stable even with the legs fully collapsed.
I have been a long time EFHW user. It has proven to be a versatile antenna with great band flexibility. Lately I have been using my Wolf River Coils 213” whip with a silver bullet mini for dawn POTA. It sets up and tears down so quickly that I think I’m forgetting something.
Really nice sunrise POTA. Called CQ on 20 for 15 min with no joy. 18 Qs on 40. All QRP CW except a couple CW hunts. Had a blue heron supervising from a dead tree and the usual morning dog walkers. Finished up with an intermittent dit connection on my key but I got through it.
Some CW wonder happened this morning. Decided to skip POTA and do some more 25WPM QSO practice. Was copying about 50% while watering plants. Suddenly realized I was now getting 80%. Even better when I get primers like TEMP, ANT, PWR, etc. Still struggling with names though.
