His Majesty's Government consider that a state of war exists between the two countries as from today at 11 o'clock pm.
I have the honour to inform your Excellency that in accordance with the terms of the notification made to the German Government today…
To German ambassador: The result of the communication made at Berlin having been that HM Ambassador has had to ask for his passports.
My French colleague received his passports at 7 last night and leaves at 10 tonight for Vienna.
He and his staff have been warned not to show themselves in public for fear of insult.
To Goschen: We will let you know without loss of time whether any reply, satisfactory or otherwise, has been received here by midnight.
If not, you are instructed to ask for your passports & say we feel bound to take all steps in our power to uphold the neutrality of Belgium.
…we must repeat that request, and ask that a satisfactory reply to it be received here by 12 o'clock tonight.
In these circumstances, and the fact that Germany declined to give the same assurance respecting Belgium as France gave last week...
We are informed that Belgian territory has been violated at Gemmenich.
Be careful to give your communication the character of good advice from Turkey's oldest friend and avoid any impression we are threatening.
If Turkey were to be drawn into the war as an ally of Germany and Austria the gravest consequences would follow.
You should earnestly impress upon Grand Vizier that Turkish interest would best be served by maintaining a strict neutrality.
I continue to receive complaints from British firms as to the detention of their ships at German ports. This action is totally unjustified.
You should demand the immediate release of all British ships if such release has not yet been given.
It is officially stated here that German troops occupied Luxemburg this morning.
HMG are informing Norway, Netherlands & Belgium that if Germany pressures them to depart from neutrality, HMG expect that they will resist.
You should ask for an immediate reply.
