It’s time states build an economy that works for *everyone* by applying a #BlackWomenBest framework to center Black women in tax policy: cbpp.org/research/state…
Black women’s labor has fueled economic progress since the nation’s earliest days, yet policy decisions continue to sideline them from sharing prosperity.
State tax policy is not race-neutral; in many ways, it functions as a support system that upholds whiteness in politics & prosperity. Centering Black women means dismantling policies that protect & grow white advantage & obstruct Black women’s economic empowerment.
In practice, that means states will have to take two crucial steps: examining the specific economic barriers Black women face, and developing tax policies that are explicitly designed to remove those barriers.
States need to implement more equitable revenue-raising policies & invest in both income & wealth supports to address intersecting gender, racial, income, & wealth gaps — where Black women sit at the center.
Applying a #BlackWomenBest framework allows policymakers to address historical harms & uplift those who have been marginalized, paving the way for opportunity & prosperity for all people.
