Finchel Writing Tips @WritingFinchel
Welcome! Although I am not not an official fanfic writer, I am an English teacher, and here's a couple writing tips I've observed over the past several years. Joined April 2014-

Tip #29: Do not give critics the chance to tell you something you already know. Try to catch a mistake - and fix it - before they do.

Tip #28: Make sure your story flows smoothly. Choppy stories rarely make an impact on the reader. Do not overlook the journey.
Tip #27: Don't feel like you must write a story from beginning to end. Jumping around can be useful in preventing writer's block.
Tip #26: Good diction (word choice) can carry your writing far. Try to use stronger, more impactful words.
@Cami_1704 Thank you. I'd be happy to check them out when I have a day off. :)
Tip #25: Write with a purpose in mind. Do not waste your audience's time.
Tip #24: Don't criticize your work until after you finish your first draft.
Tip #23: Each word and punctuation mark should have a purpose. Do not write what is not necessary.
Tip #22: Many ideas can come from real experiences, so put down the pen, close the laptop, and go out and make memories to utilize later.
Tip #21: Be vulnerable when you write. Pour a little bit of yourself into your writing. Your work will be both more realistic and relatable.
Tip #20: When you're feeling insecure, remember that you may never know just how positively your writing has moved or touched someone.
Tip #19: It may be helpful to reverse the process and come up with the summary first, then use it as a prompt to build your story from there
@LeanaticsUK your transitions, and using more varied writing techniques (tone down the use of exclamation points too). The plot is very
@LeanaticsUK interesting, and I'd love to see more romance ;) Of course, these are all just suggestions. Keep up the good work!
@LeanaticsUK realistically. I would recommend having more descriptive scenes of the setting to create a visual atmosphere. Try to work on
@LeanaticsUK it's very good! You do a good job capturing Rachel's predicament and her emotions. You describe it very accurately and
Tip #18: Try not to make your summary too long. Readers tend to skim the archive, so a short and luring summary is often best.
Tip #17: Not sure how to write a summary? Try using interesting snippets from the story, a conflict/plot synopsis, or a rhetorical question
Tip #16: Do not include author's notes or comments in the summary. Save it for the beginning or end of the story itself.
Tip #15: Your summary is what lures your audience into reading. Take your time with it. Think about it. Make it good.
