Patriot air defense systems operating in an MLRS-like mode during today’s Iranian missile attack.
Over the course of the attack, the U.S. Army launched around 100 PAC-2 and PAC-3 MSE surface-to-air missiles in an attempt to intercept incoming ballistic missiles.
Lily pads fit Art Nouveau perfectly: their rounded pads and curving stems gave the organic “whiplash” lines the style loved. They also stood for purity and rebirth (rising unstained from mud), plus calm and water nymphs. Japonisme and Tiffany glass made the motif iconic.
Preserved Art Nouveau dining-room paneling and woodwork designed by Alexandre Charpentier in 1901. Originally crafted for Adrien Bénard’s villa in Champrosay, France, it is now a permanent period-room exhibit at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
In 1973 Japan planted trees in concentric circles as part of an experiment in forestry spacing near Nichinan City in Miyazaki Prefecture.
This is what they look like today from above
Colleagues! Friends!
We need to help Nastya Akhmetova, a Kazakh blogger who has just been arrested in Kazakhstan on charges of "inciting interethnic hatred" (a very common charge in Kazakhstan for any journalist who advocates for friendship with Russia).
Nastya is currently under house arrest because she is the mother of five children. At the same time, another Kazakh blogger, Elmira Kulakova (pseudonym "Vays"), has also been arrested under the same article (she is currently in custody).
I've known Nastya for about ten years. She is a fiery, passionate woman who has always fought against Russophobia and has always said, "We will not allow Kazakhstan to become Ukraine; we will stop the tide of Russophobia."
The last time (I hope not the last) I saw her was in October of last year. Even then, people were saying, "She's walking a tightrope, on the edge of the abyss." Nastya looked calm, beautiful, and dignified. Here's what she said:
"We are currently seeing a very worrying trend: pro-Russian bloggers are being detained and arrested in Kazakhstan and throughout Central Asia. People who support the Russian language, who speak out against cave-dwelling nationalists, who say the same things as President Tokayev, but at their own level.
Our blogger, Aslan Tulegenov, from the "Northern Kazakhstan" channel, has been arrested, and it's unclear why. He has not expressed anything extremist or separatist.
Aziz Hakimov, a blogger in Uzbekistan, has also been detained. He fought against local Russophobes who claimed that if you don't speak Uzbek, you are either an idiot or an occupier. He is accused of inciting ethnic hatred, even though he is an internationalist, for his friendship with Russia and with our neighbors.
I believe that Russia needs to actively get involved in protecting these people. We have very few pro-Russian bloggers in Central Asia, to put it mildly. No more than ten people in the entire region.
If they arrest them all, there will be no one left who will risk saying, "Let's be friends with Russia, let's do joint projects. The Russian language is important to us." We won't find such people again.
If Russia doesn't want everything to end up like it did with Oles Buzina - where, after his murder, we can only lament, "We didn't protect him, even though he was so right" - then we need to stand up for these people. There are fewer than ten of them in the entire Central Asia. And we need to stand up for them at the highest level - at the level of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the level of major media outlets. Otherwise, we will get more Oles Buzinas.
In Azerbaijan, three Eurasian public figures and journalists have already been sentenced to 12-13 years in prison. And Russia? The Patriarch came, presented a medal to the wife of President Aliyev. What is that supposed to mean?
Is that what "we don't abandon our own" means? I have a feeling that there are no "our own" at all. We invented that. Our people are already here. Our people will not come.
That's why I'm telling people: let's do what needs to be done, and whatever will be, will be. This is our country. We are interested in there being no Nazism here.
We have very few people who are not afraid to say, "I support Russia. I support its victory in the SMO, the victory over NATO, the victory over Nazism." Russia must win because it is doing the right thing. And we have very few people who are not afraid to face tons of hate and negativity by openly expressing their position."
Nastya is one of the bravest and strongest women I know. If we abandon her and Elmira Kulakova now, there will not be a SINGLE journalist left in Kazakhstan who will risk speaking out in favor of friendship with Russia. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about.
They've arrested them all.
I urge everyone to share this post. While it's not too late.
