The swinging sixties, 1964, and the tories wave goodbye to their majority and to power. Harold Wilson becomes the youngest prime minister in 70 years, when Labour wins the general election with a majority of 4 seats. A big swing to the left. #history #60s #power #flashback
@YesterdaysBrit1 The one and only time my father voted Labour, lured by the vision of hovercraft, supersonic passenger jets, the GPO tower and all the rest of the White Heat of Technological Revolution
@YesterdaysBrit1 Swingometer much better than the graphics of today 🤔
@YesterdaysBrit1 I also remember the car window stickers a couple of months later saying "Don't blame me I voted Conservative" !!!
@YesterdaysBrit1 I’ve predicted the swing, but it’s a secret youtu.be/666OKm08fRA
@YesterdaysBrit1 Then there was Peter Snow … “and this is just a bit of fun … just a bit of fun … but if the results from that constituency, were to be repeated, across the Country, this is what Westminster would look like
@YesterdaysBrit1 The establishment hated Wilson. Like today, many were living in the past (Empire etc), but Wilson's govt had to tackle the UK's economic problems (no Navy east of Eden). The Queen supported Wilson, but MI5 tried to smear him.
@YesterdaysBrit1 The Great thing about Bob Mackenzie is that nobody ever knew which side he was on! 🙂
@YesterdaysBrit1 It is said that Harold Wilson was the Queen’s favourite prime minister
