@ProBluesPlayer @Almodelicious I wrote a guide specifically for this a while ago: speedrun.com/ttyd/thread/aq…

@ProBluesPlayer @Almodelicious You would need either a Japanese GameCube, an NTSC GameCube with a region switch mod, or a backwards-compatible Wii with the Homebrew Channel in order to play it.

Pressing XBRBYL on the title screen of Paper Mario TTYD enables debug mode, you can confirm by holding Z on the main menu to show the date the game was built. Also enables crash reports when the game crashes. I am not aware of anyone else who has discovered this in 13 years time.
@Pikachu979 If you're using the ISO patch, then this video by Fatguy703 should help. youtube.com/watch?v=XKhahc…
@sorecki This run is invalid because it did not actually start on file select.
@JordanMaze6 @sorecki It doesn't matter how many times you talk to them, as long as one of them is the last one.
@Almodelicious I've confirmed that this happens exactly the same way in all versions of the game.
@scatterclegge @Almodelicious Any NPC after #11 will work, since there are only 11 NPCs in west Petalburg.
@Almodelicious I've prepared a poorly-worded explanation for why this happens: pastebin.com/saATWuvw
@Almodelicious The crash is caused by the bandit being the last NPC you talked to. Talking to any other NPC after that avoids the crash.
@Almodelicious I'm pretty sure I figured out what determines the Yoshi color when you skip getting the egg normally. pastebin.com/2r4a6va7
