Installed street trees and a Class 1 bike path today at the new Robertson Blvd Transit Center in Culver City!
This take is auto-centric. The stress & safety risk for a pedestrian crossing a 2 lane road w/ a median island refuge vs a 3 lane stroad is night & day! Cars simply shouldn’t be traveling fast enough in pedestrian / cyclist corridors to do damage in left turn conflict scenarios

Just started reading “Making Precarity Work - Life on the Edge of Venice Beach” by Laura A. Orrico If you want a raw, unfiltered look at pure marketplaces, it’s worth checking out! My first dive into ethnography & I’m quite enjoying it.
And thus a protected bike lane was born! Half a days work for ~1/10 of a mile of extruded curb on Robertson Blvd near the Culver City E Line. Shoutout the Metro Active Transportation (MAT) grant funding for making this possible.

Laying out the new extruded concrete curb for the Robertson Blvd protected bike lane! Crews are also marking out the green “skips” or “cat tracking” to warn drivers where they are in a conflict or mixing zone with cyclists.
This is a good point but I (maybe naively) think that venues could coordinate with autonomous vehicle companies ahead of time to have a plan in place for X number of vehicles. The logistics of pick-up & drop-off change significantly when you can control every moment of the car.…
