She had the courage and strength to keep going even when there were dark clouds in the sky knowing that the sun will shine through again. Margaret retired in 2017 but everyone at South West Community Transport is dedicated to continuing her legacy.

Margaret Urie is just like any of us, a lady who is sensitive to the needs of disadvantaged people and has a heart of gold. She is remarkable, she is committed and never gave the dream up.

The answer is straight forward, the dream started to flourish and evolve and because of Margaret’s hard work and dedication, in 2009 South West Community Transport was born.

Margaret quickly spotted the gap between needs and assets; some people need transport and some people are happy to help them with it. How do we know this?

In 1999 Greater Pollock Community Forum was set up which was formally constituted two years later, and in 2006 a lady named Margaret Urie joined as the Transport Coordinator...

The dream of helping people with mobility problems to be able to live a content life by helping them with transportation that is provided for free or for a tiny amount of money. And so the work begins!

For the group this just didn’t feel right. They thought that we all were entitled to a decent quality of life, so why can some of us not have it? There must be a solution to this! That was the moment when the dream was born...

A group of people in the Pollok area of Glasgow recognised a problem: some people were not able to live their lives to the full simply because of having mobility issues. They faced difficulties in attending appointments with their GPs, doing everyday shopping was impossible...
