It’s been a year since this tweet reached so many people. In that time, so much has happened… and now Reika is in her final year of kindergarten. The little baby I once held has grown taller before I even realized it, trying new things every day. Lately, there are even moments when she speaks English better than I do. Watching her grow makes me so happy… but sometimes I can’t help wondering if the days she clings to me will slowly fade away. And that thought makes me just a little sad. When I gave birth to Reika during the pandemic as a single mother, I was overwhelmed with loneliness and uncertainty. I honestly didn’t believe someone like me could be a good mother. But then I met all of you here. You celebrated our growth with us, and gave me kind words when I felt lost. To me, you’re more than just supporters — you feel like family. And because of my child, I learned that a mother can grow stronger than she ever thought possible. There was a time when I received a lot of criticism for having my child on YouTube. So I asked Reika, “What would you do if I told you not to be on stream anymore?” She started crying and said, “I don’t want that… I want to be there. Why can’t I?” In that moment, I realized— this place isn’t just important to me, it’s important to her too. On YouTube, we’ve kept so many memories, from when she was just a baby until now. It feels unreal that by this time next year, she’ll already be in elementary school. Let’s keep making memories here, together.
