Really though if high school age kids were put on more specific learning paths towards what they want to do, college could all but be eliminated except for a couple professions… Seems like this would solve a lot of problems.
@_TimSwain_ College could be much more refined as well. A lot of totally useless classes.
@_TimSwain_ Our public school system is antiquated. And you are correct, with the exception of a few professions, college is a status symbol that only teaches theory. I've hired many degreed folks in my career that did not perform as well as non-degreed.
@_TimSwain_ The only problem is most high school students have no idea what they want to do with their life. In college, the first 2 years are usually generic because those kids don't know what they want to major in either. It only gets 'career specific' in years 3 and 4.
@_TimSwain_ I agree. I thought a diesel heavy equipment mechanic would come out with some skill. Wrong! What in the world has happened to colleges?
@_TimSwain_ I've been saying for years that mentoring is what kids need. Apprenticeship programs etc.
@_TimSwain_ Imagine going to school for 12 years to get a job and pay taxes, but in those 12 years no class teaches how to file your taxes. They don’t want to solve problems, they want to produce obedient subjects who don’t believe there is any other way to live.
