Edward Seymour, Viscount Beauchamp, was born on 24 September 1561 within the forbidding walls of the Tower of London.
He was the firstborn son of Lady Katherine Grey and Edward Seymour, a marriage that defied the will of Elizabeth I.

At Edward IV’s request, Bourchier was named a Cardinal by Pope Paul II in 1467, though delays meant the honor was only fully conferred in 1473.
