As different as they seem, I think the web and the C language have the same root problem: multiple compilers (browsers). Standardisation slows to a crawl, which incentivises compiler / browser specific features, which creates an explosion in "build systems", etc

interface design used to be cool and fun and everything didn't just look like a fucking roku btw we just let companies get lazy because we keep buying their slop anyways even when it sucks ass and they justify it by saying it's "more user accessible and intuitive to use"

in sum - make files carry their histories in csv - force "apps" to only make append-only writes - allow "apps" to build their own internal models of documents, based on their chosen level of support
