Why did the Government introduce a Bill to ban protest in the middle of a pandemic? Did they really think people wouldn’t come out against it in numbers? Sadly, far from being stupid, they are very clever. Surely then, this is all part of the strategy?

After watching shocking scenes of the police handling of a peaceful gathering of women in Clapham this evening, the Government’s attempt to rush through Parliament next week a significant increase in police powers over public demonstration & activities surely has to be resisted.

The current government has reduced key public areas to resort to campaigning and fundraising where they shouldn’t need to, for example, the NHS, and now, feeding those unable to afford basic food. That is exactly what public taxes are for, looking after the community. Seriously?

Justice does not exist to “contribute to the economy”, or get the construction sector out of a slump. It exists to underpin civil society. It is pursued as an evident good in itself; its inherent quality, not how much money it can make for the government, should be our aim.
