🚨 OFFICIAL: Lionel Messi, 5th at the Ballon d’Or 2026.

a good partner takes away the need to impress anyone, and that frees you to go chase the stuff youd normally be too embarrassed to try. no more cringe tax. the doubt and anxiety go away and you get unrelenting support from someone you care about. creative stuff, business, what you wear, any dying dream. who cares whos checking you out (or judging you) when you already have your person. who cares what your friends think when you have someone who will ride with you to the end of the earth. you stop caring what anyone thinks. except them. and if theyre the right one, theyll be there for you no matter what. infinite confidence glitch.

A 39-year-old Lionel Messi just finished 5th in the Ballon d'Or. Unbelievable longevity 🐐

such a beautiful life when you no put mouth for wetin no concern you.

Having lived in both the US and Europe, I can absolutely attest to this. I think the mistake people make is comparing gross salaries rather than the cost of replicating the same quality of life. The US unquestionably offers greater earnings potential, particularly in certain professions. But once you factor in housing, healthcare, childcare, transport and, importantly, the value of your time, the equation changes quite dramatically. And it’s not as though London is particularly cheap either. But the broader point resonates. Once you’ve experienced a lifestyle where more of your time is genuinely your own, you start to appreciate that not everything can be solved by earning another $100k. At some point, the marginal utility of another dollar is worth considerably less than the marginal utility of another hour with your family.

An interesting theme lately in the American expat community in Western Europe, especially higher earning corporate types (e.g. €200-300K/year), is the feeling of being unable to move back home to the US. Few reasons... Many who moved in the years after COVID sold their homes

one of the perks of living in a condo is being able to use as much heat as you want without paying anything extra. i know some of that cost is already baked into the rent, but it still feels good.

she is correct. these people say that they are against gender roles yet their identity is based on gender stereotypes. you are not a woman just because you dress like a stereotypical woman. a woman is not a feeling or aesthetic.

The literacy crisis isn’t that people can’t read the words. It’s that they can’t understand the context, infer meaning, recognise nuance, identify contradictions, or draw logical conclusions from what they’ve read

Most decaf coffee is made with methylene chloride. It's the solvent that used to be in paint stripper. The green beans are steamed, then washed in methylene chloride, which pulls out the caffeine and not much else. The beans are steamed again to drive off the solvent and then roasted at over 400F. FDA allows up to 10 parts per million. When a lab tested 24 decaf brands in 2020 it found the solvent in 10 of them at about 0.05 to 0.1 ppm, around 100 times below the limit. The industry calls this the European method. There are 3 other ways to do it. Ethyl acetate, a solvent that can be made from sugarcane, which the trade calls the natural method. Carbon dioxide under pressure. And the Swiss Water process, which uses hot water and carbon filters and no solvent at all. Peet's says all of its decaf is water process. Starbucks has told reporters most of its decaf is the direct contact method, meaning solvent. EPA banned most uses of methylene chloride in 2024, but food is FDA's job, so decaf wasn't part of it. A petition to pull it from food has sat at FDA since December 2023. FDA reopened comments on it in May and hasn't decided. If the bag says Swiss Water or water process, no solvent touched it. If the bag says nothing, you don't know.

Friends, there is a common view of God as the supreme being among many beings—as the biggest and greatest of all beings. But this is a false understanding of God, who is, as Aquinas says, “ipsum esse subsistens”—the sheer act of “to be” itself. In other words, he is the creative ground from which all finite reality comes. God is not a being in the world like the ancient mythological gods and goddesses but the creative source of all that is.

Someone could probably write a book (if they haven’t already) about the cycle of technology productizing the removal of friction in the name of convenience only for us to discover that the friction was a load-bearing part of the social compact.

Someone told me he thinks dating apps are bad because they let you access connection without having any motion in your life. Normally meeting people requires going out into the world, entering new scenes and navigating unfamiliar situations. You have to be living a life that
