it takes 5-7 days for warfarin to get cleared from circulation and stop exerting its effects. it’s not like clexane that you skip the morning dose and you’re all okay for surgery. no. you have to stop warfarin 5-7 days prior to surgery.

After 2-3 blood transfusions, we administer calcium gluconate to the patient. Why? The blood bag contains CPDA (Citrate-phosphate-dextrose solution with adenine); an anticoagulant. During transfusion, the citrate binds with body calcium & reduces body calcium levels. That’s why.
