@Arch0n42 @catholicbob I'd actually argue that the era of plenty that we live in wouldn't apply until the more modern era - tractors, combines, etc -- just as an example of how the cost to sustain a life has dropped.

I have Indians who are employed by a contractor... Theg are still on student visas with master degrees making 8/hr less than their peers. They are not getting paid on time. St my company I've heard of h1b visa holders getting threatened with deportation. I've also seen it happen.
