My goal is to keep building, keep experimenting, and document the progress along the way.
What’s one project you’ve been meaning to start but haven’t made time for yet?
Let’s encourage each other to get it done!
#design#designer
Not just telling myself I’ll practise later.
Actually opening the software, making decisions, solving problems, and creating something of my own.
It may not be perfect, but every project gives me an opportunity to understand my craft a little better.
Learning is important, but applying what you learn is where things start to become real.
So today, I’m challenging myself to take what I’ve been practising in Photoshop and turn it into an actual design.
Not just watching tutorials. Not just saving design inspiration.
👇🏽
It’s to help people understand the message in the right order.
Good design isn’t only about what people see. It’s also about how easily they understand it.
Designers, what’s one basic design principle you think every beginner should master?
A few things I’m learning to apply:
1. Use size to establish importance.
2. Use weight to make key text stand out.
3. Use spacing to give elements room to breathe.
4. Use contrast to guide the viewer’s attention.
The goal isn’t to make every element stand out.
👇🏽
One design lesson I’m learning: not every element in a design should compete for attention.
Imagine a flyer where the headline, date, venue, and every other detail are all shouting at the viewer.
Where should the viewer look first?
That’s where visual hierarchy comes in.
👇🏽
This is something I’m working on as I continue to grow in graphic design.
I’m curious: when you start a design, what’s the first thing you think about; the concept, colours, typography or layout?
•Is the layout easy to understand?
•Are the effects adding value or just the design busy?
I’m learning that designing intentionally means making choices for a reason, not simply adding elements because they look good.
👇🏽
A design doesn’t magically become good the moment you open Photoshop.
There’s a process behind it.
Before I settle on a design, I need to think about:
• What message am I communicating?
•What should the viewer notice first?
•Do the colours support the message?
…👇🏽
It’s to understand when and why to use them.
Because a good designer doesn’t just know how to create something beautiful; they understand the decisions behind it.
Photoshop designers, what’s one tool or technique that improved your designs when you finally understood it?
Things like:
• Understanding layers and layer masks. • Making images blend more naturally. • Improving composition and visual hierarchy. • Knowing when to add effects and when to keep things simple.
My goal isn’t just to learn more tools
👇🏽
Today, I’m reminding myself that knowing Photoshop and actually understanding how to use it are two different things.
I’m currently working on improving my Photoshop skills, and I’m learning to pay closer attention to the little details that make a design work. 👇🏽
…Good visual hierarchy helps people understand your design without working too hard.
I’m learning to be more intentional about the way I arrange elements, and it’s changing how I look at design.
What’s one design rule you wish you knew when you started? 👇
#designs#designer
Instead:
1. Give your headline the attention it deserves.
2. Use colour intentionally.
3. Create breathing room with proper spacing.
4. Combine fonts carefully.
Make the most important information easy to find.
A small design tip that can make a big difference:
Stop trying to make every element on your design stand out.
When everything is bold, colourful, oversized, or competing for attention, the viewer doesn’t know where to look first.
Repeating a task isn't the same as improving at it. Without someone showing you what's wrong, you can practise for months and never see the mistake.
Swipe for free ways to get feedback, ask for it, and take it well.
Which piece of work are you sending this week?
