As I’ve long argued, the deeper you dig into: —The Council of Jerusalem in Acts 15; —The relationship between Scripture and living authority throughout sacred history; and —The way Scripture came together in the post-Apostolic era; etc. The less sense sola scriptura makes.

@langluigi_ That they may all be one; even as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. - John 17:21

Friends, the Capuchin friars welcomed a broken man into their home, their routine, and their lives. In showing Christ’s tender love and mercy to Shia LaBeouf, they saw a man reinvigorated and ultimately welcomed into the fullness of the Church. It’s a beautiful story, modeled time and again throughout the ages by the brotherly example of Jesus, St. Francis of Assisi, Padre Pio, these brothers, and countless more. The more you give of your life and your love, the more the divine grace increases in you. As with all conversions, there’s so much more than we might readily be able or invited to see. The genius and humor of God is that there is a ripple effect with each conversion.

For a blameless man was quick to act as their champion; he brought forward the shield of his ministry, prayer and propitiation by incense; … showing that he was your servant. He conquered the wrath…by his word he subdued the punisher. - Wisdom of Solomon 18:21-22

For while gentle silence enveloped all things, and night in its swift course was now half gone, your all-powerful word leaped from heaven, from the royal throne, into the midst of the land that was doomed, a stern warrior - Wisdom of Solomon 18:14-15

Then why did 10 of Jesus's Apostles and thousands of Early Christians die violently for an imaginary person?

@ThomasDierson @davidicke Early Christianity never believed Jesus was real, rather an ideal

@SuperMarioJumps Jesus also celebrated the feast of the dedication (aka Hanukkah) so he either accepted maccabees as scripture, accepted the tradition to celebrate it, or both!

@ModernBoethius I listened to a debate about lying, and was intrigued by the argument that for lying to be sinful it must be “the intent to deceive someone who has a right to know the truth”

@R0mans1_22 @smashbaals And isn’t it a translation issue? Could it not be stated “married only once” which doesn’t make marriage sound so much as a requirement?

@R0mans1_22 @smashbaals Also not trying to be argumentative, but in the same passage it says he must keep his “children” so would you say that someone would be prohibited from the office if he had fewer than two children?

@R0mans1_22 @smashbaals Paul was an Apostle, and bishops are successors of apostles. Apostle meaning given a special leadership role from Christ at the beginning of the church and being an eye witness to the resurrection. Bishops having the same role minus being an eye witness.
