@DP_Gross @FRMResearchDay McCauley and Swisher's criteria is still important though: -Considers how the test was standardized. -Specifies how predictive validity be assessed. -Requires that identification accuracy be reported (a crucial point, as the purpose of language tests is to identify impairment).
@DP_Gross @FRMResearchDay Thanks for the question! Yes, I think COSMIN would be useful in evaluating language tests (done by Denman et al., 2017). COSMIN has specific requirements about how a study of each measurement property should be carried out (e.g., sample size, study design, statistical analysis).
@charest_monique @FRMResearchDay Here's a comparison of the two methods
@charest_monique @FRMResearchDay The COSMIN ratings are lower because all three of these tests were penalized by COSMIN for the statistical methods used in reliability studies (Pearson correlation rather than ICC) and because of how they calculated standard error of measurement (used Cronbach’s alpha).
@eskim8 @FRMResearchDay Some tests that approximate this are: the ADOS-2 (developed to measure autistic behaviours), the Early Social Communication Scales for preschoolers (not normed), and the Pragmatic Rating Scale—School Age (unpublished observation rating scale).
@eskim8 @FRMResearchDay in terms of standardized tests I think a test that provides standard activities to elicit social communication and that is scored based on observation of the child’s communication behaviour during these tasks would be promising.
@FRMResearchDay Thanks for your question! I am interested in children with emotional and behavioural disorders so I would go with the TOPL-2. It is the only test (of these three) that has considered this population.
A great read if you're doing social communication intervention!
