@ido_benamram I never saw this comment, sorry, but yes I do ^ I tried to write it years ago and failed, maybe I need to try again... I agree that standard texts are unreadable.

@smallkewlhuman @QiaochuYuan same result (you don't act) but now it's accompanied by a feeling that something is horribly wrong with your mind instead of your lot in life

@smallkewlhuman @QiaochuYuan I think I disagree I think when there were more "actual" power hierarchies, you could feel your emotions (because acting on them was held back by the power itself) now the power hierarchies are artificial: you learn to suppress them emotionally instead of physically

@QiaochuYuan also a lot of analysis, topology, measure theory, infinite set theory, and lots of other stuff... presumably become irrelevant

@QiaochuYuan I feel like the difference is that .. it's not human so none of it "counts".

@QiaochuYuan I used to think I didn't have a fear of death and then at some point I caught a glimpse of how much I really did: in fact I ended up living analytically, and worrying what people thought all the time, in order to never go anywhere near the emotional idea of death at all.

@QiaochuYuan @sam_kritch @AskYatharth Hi I wrote that I'd say that Clifford algebras are definitely a real thing (which show up when you use multivectors as operators) and ofc their signs make sense as defined in that case. But that doesn't mean you should go design all of vector algebra with those signs also.

@QiaochuYuan I went looking for when I wrote an article on lesswrong.com about the exact same issue and, lo, you responded on it also lesswrong.com/posts/Bcq3Qw9m… That said I'm quite a bit more of a constructivist these days. My new solution is to not care about real numbers..

the great tragedy of the modern age is that there are so many people who can do truly great work, and then there are so many people who get to do things with large budgets and reach... and they are mostly not the same people cf the Borderlands Movie, apparently
